Beeping noise in WIN 2000

We just switched from WIN NT to WIN 2000.

Now when we click on empty space we get a beeping noise (one beep per click). For example when you choose DELETE and then you click on empty space rather than a line, spline, etc.

 

CNC Support is looking into it, but I would like to pick your brains to see if any of you have had this problem and what your solution was.

 

Our design room is not too big and there are four users, so the noise gets old real soon.

Is the beep coming through the sound card or the PC speaker?

If the beep is coming thru you speakers you could try turning off you sound scheme Control panel -> Sounds. If turning off the sound scheme silences your beep, look until you find the program event that has the beep associated and select the more pleasant sound of silence.

Our HP machines have built in speakers, but they are turned off, so I am guessing it is coming from the card?

I heard that it could be related to Windows diagnostics. We also wanted to disable it but we thought we better not after I heard this.

 

BTW running XP Pro and win2000

I heard it's a service and you could deactivate it.

Well,

 

I finally found the solution to the beeping noise.

 

Go to:

 

- Control Panel

- System

- Hardware

- Device Manager

- View

- Show Hidden devices

- Non plug-and play drivers

- Beep

 

Right mouse click on BEEP and pick DISABLE.

You will have to re-start your computer for it to take effect.
