Named Levels Problems

When taking an IGS file from ProEngineer all data comes thru fine as do layer numbers, parts are on the correct numbered layer.

However layer names do not are not being read by X6. We Use layer names for all following procedures. It helps if we have the

Level names come in with the IGS files. This appears to be unique to Master Cam as with other software we use the names come through.

Thanks for any assistance that can be rendered. Larry

Layer transition is a problem in most converters because there's no standard for layer implementations in CAD. Each vendor develop them in their own way. For years they have to deal with limitations in computer architecture and thus the number of layers is often 255 in many systems.

I would not hold my breath expecting this to work. You may file an enhancement request but I think there's not much that can be done now.

I can be deadly wrong on this, of course.

Pete Rimkus is the man to look into this one.

Daniel ... thanks for the reference...

Larry - IGES does have a couple ways of handling Layer/Level information... we do attempt to grab IGES level names when they're defined inside IGES Type 406 (Form 3 and Form 15) entries in the file, but I don't know exactly how Pro/E saves level information.

I have access here to a seat of Pro/E but I'd still be concerned that I'm not duplicating the "SaveAs IGES" process that's being done at your end.

It would really help me help you if you could send me any sort of IGES file from Pro/E which shows the problem.

Or the original Pro/E file, and then I could try the "SaveAs IGES" here myself.

And when you say you "have the translators", does that mean that you do have the Mastercam Pro/E reader add-on and 1) choose not to use it; or 2) don't see the Pro/E files and only get the IGES ?

Thanks
