HASP Driver uninstalling

Hi there,

I've a user here that, when they reboot the computer, and try to run Mastercam, the HASP installation program runs, and reinstalls the driver. It appears on rebooting, that the driver uninstalls. Has anyone struck this, and if so, a possible fix?

I seem to recall this problem a while back, but I cant, for the life of me, recall the fix.

They're running Windows XP professional, with Mastercam V9.1.

Cheers,

Mike

Paralell port HASP? Might be a flaky paralel port that dosn't appear to be there when MasterCAM's HASP driver tries to load. Try checking to see if the drivers are there after re-starting the computer by doing this:

- Right-click on 'My Computer' and select 'Properties', select the 'Hardware' tab and open the divice manager. From the 'View' menu, select 'Show Hidden Devices'. Under non-plug-and-play divices, look for 'Hardlock' and 'Haspnt'. Double-click on them to check the status.

If the drivers aren't there, look in the Startup folder or the registry for a command that is removing the drivers on start-up. If the drivers are there and the status indicates that they are OK, try changing the paralell port mode in the CMOS to 'Standard' or 'EPP'. DO NOT USE ECP or ECP+EPP, as that nearly always fails.

After checking the above, look at the connection. Is there anything attached to the paralell port? If there is, that's probably your problem. Paralell ZIP drives, scanners, bi-directional printers, or paralell-port based memory card readers, or their drivers, will interfere with the HASP. As will switch boxes and incorrectly placed DNC cables (beware of any gender changers attached to the HASP or any cables plugged into the back of the HASP. It's almost always wrong).

You might also check the event log for errors, but with Microsoft's new 'full disclosure' poicy being applied to those logs, you might find nothing but a sea of unimportant and trivial 'errors', all with little stop signs next to them.

If it's a USB key, I haven't the foggiest. Those things are supposed to just work. Might be a useful upgrade...
