hello all. I have a question about solids in the mill level 1 exercise #5 they machine it in wireframe in the chaining box but I am unable to do it unless I use solids why is this. I have not been able to with any other solids either. If anybody knows about this it would be a big help. tx

Make sure you are displaying the wireframe geometry and have your chain selection set to wireframe. I have no idea what exercise #5 is so I can't really help without more information.

this is an exercise to import a solidworks file, xform translate 3d from the mill level 1 training tutorial series

OK. Right now there is no wireframe geometry. You will either need to change your import options for a .SLDPRT file by checking the Edge curves box or add the wireframe as needed after you open the file. For creating the wireframe I recommend setting another level and using create curve on one edge. You can also use create curve all edges and change your solid selection to one face.

Can you create a curve on a solid or do you have to create a surface from a solid first and then create curves ?

You can do it from the solid.

One thing to note about create curve all is you will have to activate solid selection. But than you can select the entire solid or just a face. Here is another conversation on create curve all edges
