Samsung Machine Tools?

Recommended Posts

Guest MTB Technical Services

A couple of years away from any kind of purchase but was wondering if anybody has had and experience with Samsung machines?

They are the  world leader in TV's at this point.

Their slant beds are very good.

Their built solid like the old Mori's.

They do well down here in Texas for Oil & Energy work.

They are giving Doosan a real run for their money.

Their mills are pretty good as well.

FANUC controls on everything.

The rub will be service and support in your area.

If you're looking for a good machine at a decent price, they're worth the price.

Make sure they don't option you to death.

You will want the FANUC AICC/AiAPC depending upon what control model they actually provide.

It's probably a FANUC 0i-MD.

You'll also want built-in networking.

Samsung is making a real push against Doosan.

They're both Korean neighbors so you can definitely get a good deal by comparing against Doosan.

Weren't they the company that built the Mori components back in the day? Or did they buy access to the Mori designs? I remember hearing something about that a couple of years ago.

That's them.

I'd take a Samsung lathe over what passes for a Mori these days.

We had a MVC50 installed in Jan. and as of Apr.  the last bug has been fixed. I do like the machine so far but I am not at all impressed with the service.  We had many tech. out for the same problems, and waited weeks for parts.  The machine though is very sound. It handles the mastercam dynamic tool paths and accurate finishing. One option  i would suggest is the added chip wash coolant pump. We only have the high pressure pump and one coolant nozzle / chip wash pump. The one pump just can not handle both jobs at once.
