STL files

Hi all,

 

I used to use the stl files and go from operation to operation and use the stl file from the previous op as the stock model for the next op. To do that I need the xform stl function. I did a search on the forum, and I guess you can use a stock model instead? How does that work? I'd like to do that but when I try to save the file after verify the only option I have is an stl file, or all files.

You can still use Xform to move STL's

Open them as mesh, transform or rotate as needed then save them back out as mesh

Stock Model is just an operation.

 

So add that operation to your toolpaths, and fill the parameters.

 

No Verify and save as.

Not really sure what a mesh file is, but I just opened the stl in x9, and was able to rotate it and save it, then use it as stock for verify in the next op. Not sure if that's what you meant, but it worked fine. Thanks!

when the file type drop down is set to stl, you have the option of saving as mesh or stl

mesh yields a useable file.

stl creates a file with billions of tiny lines which will bring even the best of computers to their knees

Now a thought if you are using the STL for your verify of the next paths , you do not need to use a STL if you use the stock model.

Now if you want to machine against another op using the STL you can use the Stock model instead. For me I have not used the STL files in a good long time.
