OKK VM 5III

Can anyone give me an opinion on OKK VM5III?

We are looking to get one very soon, but are not very sure how they compare to Mori's 50 taper vmc.

We know OKK used to be top of the line several years back, but is this still the case?

We have great experiance with Mori and Kuraki and it appears that OKK is at least of similar quality. We do a lot of high precision machining and need an accurate and rigid machine.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards, Mark

No expierence with Mori, but a whole bunch with OKK. We have two VM5's, a VM7, and an 860. I love em' all. Very good machine. We do alot of high precision, hard milling, small detail, you name it, we do it. Although, I can't compare because I don't have any expierence with Mori, but I can say OKK is a very good machine. What I like about OKK is, it has a lot more torque (gear spindle), seems more rigid and consumes a lot less power. All this according to a sales brochure, but nothing can beat the experience of users on this forum so again any input will be helpfull.

I don't have any experience with the OKK, in the other hand, moris are very nice machines very friendly to deal with, but that is just my opinion, now, you seem to know the OKK pretty good, you like them a bit for what you explain here, so why try to change?..what if you don't like it later in the game?...it is worth it to change?... wink.gif

If the current trend continues the most important thing in the future will be which machine has the least amount of safety interlocks. Another one, how many key strokes does it take to reset the toolchanger if it has a hickup? Two laminated pages roped to the machine to explain what to do when, not if, the toolchanger hangs up. There are many machines that are built very well and I would at least compare/contrast to a makino, even if you are not interested in one.

Well, until people take personal responsibility for their stupidity I don't see interlocks becoming any less complex and numerous. The trend will continue until there's no possibility to setup the machine without having 4 or 5 hands on different switches. eek.gifeek.gifeek.gif

See because people just can't seem to leave their grimy mitts off moving parts, so they get smashed. Then they find some slimy Lawyer that won't tell them what an idiot they are for doing that on top of that they find 12 morons that say it's the Machine Tool Builder's fault because the plaintiff is a moron and he deserves huge payday. Not only that, but they refuse to tell the truth that the poor sap should be eliminated from the gene pool.

That's my take and I'm sticking to it!
