Lathe Grooving Question

When running verify, note the small piece of excess stock in the lower left quadrant of that OD radius.

 

I added a piece of line in the "Groove Shape Parameters" tab to get it that good. Which is not very good.

 

I have tried adding a point to my chain to force a more uniform roughing pass at the floor of that radius. That doesn't work either.

 

Try turning off those contour extensions in the "Groove Shape Parameters" tab. That's what I originally got.

 

The part would "hate" that radius anyway. That's a chatter problem that doesn't exist yet.

 

This question is hypothetical, as I am not making that part, but I am perplexed by this behavior.

I don't see any excess stock when I run that in verify

The only very small stock I see is in the roughing pass, so I changed the step over to 70% and seemed to remove it?

Barry, why not try lathe dynamic rough, I have been experimenting with this tool path, it is very fast, and easy to control. you need to use a round insert though, for some reason, I cannot attach the file, so below is a screen shot

Yes, I like the Dynamic Rough cycle too. I was simply going through a tutorial, and "fell down the rabbit hole". You know how it gets when a tool doesn't behave in a manner that you think it should.
