I used to work for a press tool manufacturer, and i has set up a template file, where, levels, planes, machines, were all set up, but what we also had. was a "c-hook" which when run, would move all holes, pockets and geometry, to set different levels, making setup and programming very quick, i wonder if this c-hook is still available ?
No reason why not, but obviously you would not get 1mm/rev of feed rate.Sandviks selling point(to me), was they could not get the insert to wear, i reckon, i could have run the insert at the speeds/feeds for around 60 minutes
Jeff, i trialled this tool for Sandvik, we ended up at 3mm depth of cut, 0.3mm plunge into the radii, 1mm per rev, and 285 mtrs/min, the tool ran for around 38 mins, with no discernable wear
Greg, all of my lathe tools are HSK, and are custom. I assume the geometry is fine ? and tools are drawn, when tool changed. with the insert in the correct position ,i.e. facing to you/ facing away from you
You then need to define the tool correctly along with clearances, this is the most crucial point, what i do with mines is set the defaults, then post to check, orientation of tool, spindle direction is correct, once i have got these done, it works fine, I am off work at the moment, so cannot check your files. So hope what i am saying is understandable.
I had lots of problems with 2017, especially it crashing, constantly,
2018 is a different ball game, for me much more stable, i have not had one problem with it at all, So my opinion, is to upgrade
I have run the "B" type tool, on EN9 steel at 275mtrs/min rpm`s, 3mm depth of cut, and 1mm/rev, the tool cut for 34 mins, abd i could not see any wear on the edge.
Interestingly, i have tried the C hook, but got the error that i needed to use a coroplus prime tool, How can you import into lathe ?
I programme two large millturns, and I do not use lathe stock or the millturn add on, I use top wcs, set my stock as a revolved solid, and use the one stock through all turning/milling drilling operations. I have used this method for years and have had no problems with stock updates. I have attached a file to explain better, hope this helps !

here is the reply from Aaron eberhard
COMPRESSOR SAM (4/6/2017)yes you`re memory is correct !
on another note, is the Sandvik prime turning going to be added at the official release ?
We're hoping to get it out before the RTM. We've wanted it out with the betas, but there's been a bunch of logistical issues that have kept it pushed back. Hopefully with PC1 or 2 you'll be able to take it for a spin.
Samuel, there is an example on the main mastercam site (link below), hope this points you in the right direction

Gents as promised, file attached, there was very little noticeable wear on the insert after one part, I reckon, we would get three parts before changing.
NEWBEE, what is wrong with being a tight a***d jock ?, need to buy you a beer sometime to change your misconceptions, but you will need to renew youre passport before you can cross the border (ha ha) Yes I bit like a big guppie !!!

When i get back into work tomorrow, i will post the file, and you can see how it was completed. very simple concept, no need to get the code generator.
I
the Sandvik reps asked me to trial this, I have two WFL`s 100kw spindle power, i run the part on EN8 steel, 285 metres/min surface speed, 3mm DOC, and 1mm /rev, it drew 15 kw in power, i was very impressed with how it cut, but............the inserts are 19 pounds each, with two edges, they are not offering discount, this method is actually slower, than the process just now, and when you work out the cost per edge, more expensive, (i run 160612 cnmg at 270 mtrs/min with a 8mm DOC and .5mm/rev).
