We have mastercam 8.1 and are trying to project a 2d pocket nci program, onto a 3d

surface, without much luck.How do you get

nci to project on surface?

Could use some help.

You can go in toolpath--surface--finish--project.You select the surface you want to project on. On the last page(finish project param.) you just have to select the program that you have already done (a 2D pocket in your case).Click OK and that's it.

Thanks for responding so quickly Fred.

But, when I do that and then go to operations

manager it won't generate toolpath. It shows up in the operations manager as surface finish project - pocket but it is a empty

program.

One thing to check is make sure your Cplane is set correctly. So if your 2D path is directly above your surface (in Z) make sure your Cplane is set to Top.

You also need to specify a seperate NCI file for the original toolpath and the projected toolpath.

The Cplane is set to the Top,but I don't

see where you are suppose to specify the

nci file name for the projection. I have the name for the original toolpath.

Have given them each seperate names.

But still will not project onto surface.

ok you need to post just the nci on the pocket program.

then when you do the project it will find the NCI file and project it.

Jay(cadcam), that is the V7 method. In V8 have the 2d poecket operation in the operation manager and select that operation in the project parameters.

i understadthat but for some reason it wanted to still see the nci.

charles had sent me the file and i just created NCI and it worked perfect.

cycletime you are correct went back to the file and did it with out the nci just defined the surface and picked the op and no problem.

WE have two seats of mastercam 8.1, the file

I sent you works on one of the computers,

but not the other computer

No clue as to why.

Possible causes why it may work on one and not the other...

Was one seat of MC installed differently than the other? ie. was one an upgrade (installed over an existing MC) and another installed fresh? Also is the V8.1 CD dated 01/26/2001?

both computers have version 8.0 with the

8.1 upgrade from the internet.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the only way to upgrade from V8 to V8.1 was by installing it from the CD.

Charlie please check the date of your mill8.exe file. It is most likely located in C:mcam8 - it should have a date of 1/26/2001 if you have V8.1

FYI

Mastercam Version 8.1 Should have a date of 1/26/2001. It was not a patch to the best of my knowledge but I could be wrong. If it is earlier than 1/26/2001 you may have a beta 8.1.

The June 2000 date is the date of the V8.0.

This may be the cause of your problem. I suggest contacting your reseller so that they can send you a new CD.

FYI - another way to check the version, when in MC type ALT-V and it will bring up the version you are running. Mine reports MASTERCAM version 8 (1.26.2001) - notice the date.
