  1. Do you have to run this off a bar? Could you get some pie jaws and mill a bore off center in the lathe the amount you need?
  2. If you use polar cordinate interpolation you may get a warning about the C axis not at zero. Usually it will work in the machine if it posts out, but what happens is the oreintation of the pocket might not be correct in the machine as far as C0. is concerned. so if you have other features with a radial relationship to the pocket you may have to consider that. You also might want to give it a start point that is at C0. and then chain your geometry. Or dont use polar interpolation and have a lot of code.
  3. i dont like the 4 sided inserts, usually one side fractures and you cant use the other side anyways. Have you looked at Sumitomo cbn?
  4. If you are primarily doing mostly turning work i would say that the lower turret is a good option. If you are concserned about cycle time the lower turret would help considerably because sometimes the tool change time for the ATC is long depending on how many tools you get(min 40), which i would go for the biggest magazine possible btw. Put most of your turning tools in the lower turret. Its quicker even if your not running sync'd operations. Full 5 axis is an option you probably want and i would be sure and get sub-spindle coolant thru if your getting a sub-spindlea(Which you should). Oh and a part catcher that works on either spindle. m2c

    Multiplex

Is this engraving on a radius or flat surface? Face or Cross? Do you have enough Y travel to engrave or do you need to use polar interpolation? If your using in the G17 plane (Y,Z milling, X being your depth) draw and path your engraving in the back view. Do a contour, rotary axis Y, set planes to Back. You could start off with the Mplfan, just enable y axis near the top of the post. I think there is a mpltpls or something similair that is a mazak lathe post that you could use. We do not use mazatrol(except transfer) on our Multiplex's so i dont know what you would need as far as code to use as a sub from mazatrol. Probably just need the guts and not the tool call or work offsets.
  6. Are you sure you want it to check before the tools runs? If the tool before it broke while running then you are probably going to break the next tool while it is running and not catch the broken tool before its to late. I would suggest checking the tool in the spindle after it runs. Then the machine will stop before the next tool runs. Hard code this in the post before your M1 or retract postblock. 7. Wouldnt it be nice if you put 100 in the CSS box and mastercam figured out the rpm for the drill your using for the operation? And when you entered a straight RPM into the Rpm box you got that instead?
