Does anyone know or use the MC probe software that can be used to probe by picking points? I have used vector points to check angles on the side of the part. I think the software will speed up the process of checking. Anyone know about it?
Actually it's not a bore in z axis. It's a radius in x direction. About .086 deep and 1.500 wide on the y axis. There is an equation
(R = 4b sq + c squared divided by 8b) where b = depth of radius and c = width of radius. The radius is 3.442 but we would like to check after machining. The machining is done in the x axis with a 2 1/2 d tool path from MC8.
Does anyone use a reinshaw probe for haas? I need to probe a radius in the top of a part and not sure how.
Thanks
I know this is no much information but I emailed the print to myself in mastercam format and can't attach it to my question.

Thanks for the input. I will look at this and try to work it out. I understand the trial and error thing but I only know enough to be dangerous. Don't really want to crash the machine. Im very new to the cnc lathe. Been running vertical mill for years so this is something different.
We have MC 7 and a haas DS 30 SSY duel chuck lathe. We made a program on MC that works on the screen. When the chuck on the right grabs the part, all the subsequent Xdim are positive. But when posted all the positive dim turn negative.
Any suggestions?
Jeff
We are new to this lathe so be gentle please.
I read some of the forum comments here after we loaded MC7 on our existing computer at work because we had so many problems. Then I read that someone (not sure who) said they loaded a fresh copy of MC7 on a brand new computer and it worked fine. So thats what we did. And we are having very few problems. I noticed from the first program I made that this was going to work well. Also I think it was probably a problem to migrate files from MC6 to MC7. That may have caused all the problems. But this is to let everyone know that MC7 works great when loaded on a new computer.

I went the the start menu to launch the tool manager. I also crashes when you try to make a new tool there.
I talked to the MC dealer and they think there are corrupt registry files and I need to clean out. I think we are
going to completely restore the computer to clean out all files then reload MC7 and Outlook which are
the only programs we have on the computer. I will get back with the results of whether it works or not.
We just got done loading MC7 in our computer and trying to set up all the
different menus so things go smoothly when making a program. I had a
problem right from the start. I don't use a tool library cause I find it just as
easy to create tools on the fly. But when I tried to do this, MC locked up
and shut down. It does this every time. When I right click to create a new
tool, MC locks up. Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks for all your responses. We are in the process of getting this corrected so we can run the
lathe without having to use the flash drive.
Again, thanks.
Jeff
Can you describe "set up properly"? What exactly do I have to look for to change setting?
Is there special software to use? When you say "copy and paste files" the files
are not sent to the lathe like they are to the vertical mill with rs232?
We purchased a HAAS CNC Lathe that is now set up and we use Mastercam to communicate with
other vertical mills (HAAS) that we have. The management decided to use an ethernet cable between
the computer and the lathe. All the other machines use RS232. We are not able to send a program
to the lathe. Not really sure how to set it up. I wonder if anyone had the problem or knows the
answer. Thanks for your responses.

I have a slot to cut in A2 that is 10 inches long 1.260 x .551 with a .790 slot thru to the t slot. The space between the top and slot is .492. I asked my supervisor to buy a t slot cutter that uses inserts and he purchased a generic brand with inserts that only use one side of the insert. I will insert a picture of the cutter. The cutter has no brand name on it so probably china made.
I wonder if anyone could give me speeds and feed to start with that I could try out this cutter. I will cut the .791 slot to depth before doing the t slot. Material is A2. Does anyone have ideas? Air or coolant to cool the tool?
Thanks
Jeff
I have not experienced cutting a lot of t slots and would like to know if there is a fast way to get this done.
The center slot is .790 wide and .875 deep. The T of the slot is 1.260 wide by .550 high.
I started with an onsite t cutter, specially ground to size, running it after I cut the slot .790 x .875 deep.
The T cutter speed was 125 and feed rate .2.Thenslot is 9.500 long. So takes almost an hour to run.
I wonder if there is tooling that can get this done faster. Dimensions are not critical.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have a file that I need to tool path. The area in question is a W shape about Z-.750 at an angle of approx 8 deg. I would like to put a small (.03) radius around the shape and have tried everything. I am now going to try to upload the file. If its not there, I will also need help uploading as I haven't done this for quite a while.
Thanks for your help

I would like to know, in simple terms, how I can tool path a solid works file that I import from our engineering dept. I don't do any 3D tool paths,
I just need to know what to do so I can 2D the solid works file.
Thanks in advance
Jeff
We used to have MCX. The designers would create in solid works and then create dwg so we could toolpathing from it. They stopped converting so we got MCX6 to be able to open SW but I need to do some converting before I toolpathing from it.
Trying to do this, I got to save as x-t. When I click the option button a small message comes up asking what version of solid works the pic is. And not real sure about the coordinate system thing. If it helps I only want to make it a 2d pic to do 2d toolpathing.
