  1. I need to put a radius or roundover on a 1" thick piece of oak board approx 12 x 24. I also need to put a concave radius or cove on another board of similiar dimensions. Is it possible to mount a router bit in the bridgeport spindle and use it as a router?
  2. FTI, you are not the only one this bothers. I hate to admit it, but .499899 annoys the he77 out of me. Call be a blacksmith, but 4 places is close enough for me!
  3. I know the alt+t toggles operations on and off, but how do you default them to OFF? I got a new mouse a few weeks ago and I got a little sloppy with the button clicking and now my toolpaths are always ON and then I have to turn off every toolpath as I make it. I have no clue what I did to change the display, but I remember doing it!
  4. Thanks for the replies. I am talking more about a mouse than a 3D mouse, but now you have me thinking. Does a 3D mouse (for the left hand?) save a lot of work for the regular mouse in the right hand? I guess I keep my left hand anchored by the ESC and function keys and try to use it as much as possible. What do you guys do?
  5. I am looking at the Evoluent Vertical mouse. Is anyone still using it (old thread)? Can you program all the buttons for Mastercam use? I have been using a Microsoft 2 button mouse with scroll wheel for about 14 years now, but I do have pain in my right forearm. The Evoluent looks like a good idea to me.
  6. Same problem here, but also with scallop toolpath. Looks like Mickey Mouse ears. Regardless of settings, this is a new problem and yet another thing you have to watch out for as Mastercam continues to "improve" their product.

    X3

One thing to consider, if you have older computers you may have to update the computers and/or windows to get X3 to run on them. We updated right away, and the guys in the shop were still on X2 and now they can't open the files unless we save them out as X2 files. Looking back on the decision to update right away, I would have waited. There is nothing great about X3, and if it is going to cause other problems it is not worth it. Another disapointing mcam release.
  8. I have tried that, but the on/off selection is grayed out. It seems if I highlight some levels and then wait awhile they turn on by themselves.
  9. Also, does anyone know why the hot keys in the drafting toolbar use different letters now? That one will take some getting used to.
  10. Is there a way to highlight a bunch of levels in the level manager using shift or control and then turn them all on or off. It seems like there used to be.
  11. Yes, I didn't update my signature. I am running MR2 SP1, and yes I know you need to drag the arrow to the right end. It doesn't work, and I was just looking for possible solutions. I'm going to try redrawing the line as Matt suggested. BTW it worked in X2 sp1. Thanks
  12. I just updated to MR2 SP1, and now when I try to create a dynamic arc, it uses the opposite end of the entity for the start of the arc. Anyone have an idea why? This is a prime example of why I dread every new release, same amount of bugs, just in different places. Suggestion for MR3. Don't release it until it is actually better than X,X2,X2MR1, etc.
  13. I have had that happen too. Try highlighting all operations and right click on the group name. Then click on edit selected operations and change NC file name to what you want. This works for me even though the NC file name appears to be right the first time. If I remember right, this happens when I bring in someone else's file and add ops to it.
  14. Murlin, Are you sure you are from Texas? It sounds like we work at the same place.
  15. Nice to see a couple of other Clark Griswalds in the world. It ain't looking good here either.
  16. Not sure if they have tried different tool holders. We have glass scales.
  17. Thanks, after reading the links, maybe a test bar would be the way to go. I wonder why the service tech didn't suggest that? If that is the problem (spindle taper), is that something that can be corrected?
  18. I guess we will keep testing. Our operators are very good, and we have never noticed this problem until recently. You are right though, the ROKU is extremly accurate, .0006 is HUGE for us, and we wonder how we will be able to mill critical things with confidence anymore. As far as work offset, I already explained that when we try to offset to compensate, the result is not predictable. I wonder if Kevin was on to something with the spindle taper? Thank you guys for the advice, I will keep you posted. Maybe its just something stupid that we are missing.
  19. We use a 3-R system most of the time, but in this case the block was in a vise. We have the same problem with the 3-R though, because we had to rework a mold with .0006 mismatch from the electrode. That is how we discovered this situation.
  20. Yes the machine is warmed up, the guys are pretty good at doing that. Here is what they told me. They cut the pocket, it was shifted x-.0006, so they tried it again with a x +.0006 offset hoping that would put the pocket on center. It didn't. The pocket moved to x+.0006. That is messed up.
  21. Our ROKU 658 has developed a problem. It is cutting off center about .0006 in the x-axis only. You can pick up a ground block on center, mill a pocket, and pick up the block again. The block will still be on center, and the pocket will not. We had it checked with a laser, and a ball bar, and everything looks great. I was wondering if anyone has experienced the same thing?
  22. We use Jabro solid carbide ball/bull nose cutters in tool steels (48-56). I haven't shopped around much, so I'm not sure how they compare on price or performance, but they seem to work fine. I am open for any suggestions. Our machine goes to 32,000 rpm and we usually use cutters 10mm or smaller.
  23. Rick, Yeah, if you could put that up here I would take a look at it. Thank you.
  24. I am using wear. I will try switching the arc output first, if that doesn't work, then I will try the reverse wear. Thanks to both of you! BTW Kannon, I wish I was still using 9.1!!! One year after switching to X, and numerous side by side and overwrite installs later, I really don't know what I gained by switching to X.
