  1. To all- There was a post from one of the forum members about two weeks regarding a video card with a specific setting for Mastercam. Anyone recall? Need some info- I'm building a new computer. Gary Armitstead Santa Fe Enterprises Burbank, CA
  2. Jay- I guess it helps to talk about a question and then something clicks. Yesterday I was trying to show one of our young NC guys how to enter d-m-s as a value and the old brain went dead. I guess it helps to use the help files in MCam, but that too EASY. I talked to you at the MC seminar at the Sportsman's Lodge a few months ago about Predator as a verifier for NC code. Gary
  3. Jay- Found the answer to my own question! d for degree- ' for minute- " for seconds- i.e. 15d, 23', 45". The angle is then coverted automatically to a decimal equivalent. Gary
  4. Jay- I'm talking about when you are drawing a line, setting rotation angle, etc. and you have to enter an angle value. I know you can enter as degree-minute-second as opposed to a decimal equivalent-symbols are used and the angle is converted to decimal. Thanks for the help, Gary
  5. Hi All- A few months ago, there was a topic on entering angles as degrees-minutes-seconds, not as decimals. There were symbols that were used and MasterCam converted these automatically as decimals. Does anybody remember this topic? I've forgotten how to do it. 6. Version 7 Catia translator will not work with V8. We purchased the upgrade from our local dealer in Huntington Beach, CA - costs about $400- has been working just fine. I use it everyday. Gary Armitstead Santa Fe Enterprises El Monte, CA
  7. Thanks CadCam for the info. Will be there- at the Sportsmans Lodge in May. Gary Armitstead
  8. We are clients of CAD-CAM Consulting, but we haven't heard of this seminar. Would appreciate any info. Gary Armitstead
  9. What great idea! I have been going to Westec or its equivalent for over 36 years. I am a programmer for a 5 man forging die shop and got my start turning handles the "old-fashioned" way. Have used MasterCam for almost ten years. I haven't touched a "real" handle for over 4 years. Ain't MasterCam great?! All of you have given me pointers and this forum is a wealth of knowledge and information. I live in Burbank and work in El Monte. Dennis Neil from Cad Cam Consulting has been my lifesaver many times. Hope to meet some of you. I'll probably be there on Tuesday. Gary Armitstead
  10. I have been using Mastercam for 9 years. I am now using V8 with all the latest patches for multisurf machining. I have a cavity job that is a great candidate for surface leftover toolpathing. The part contains 1400+ surfaces and when using leftover to do the entire part, the software locks or says illegal operation. I have turned off the gap checking and gouge checking as others have done. It still has problems. The part was originally a Pro-E drawing that was iges into Mastercam. Any suggestions would be welcome. Gary Armitstead Burbank, CA
  11. Create a RULED surface on the rectangle by single chaining the two LONG sides or the two SHORT sides. In V7, create rectangle, points, surface Y(yes) or N (no). In V8, create rectangle, points, options create surface. Check whether you want a surface or not. Gary Armitstead Burbank, CA
  12. Thanks for the help. I thought it might be in the software- I have been using Mastercam since V3.11 and never had this problem before- I am now using V8. I will see about getting the upgrade to 8.03 on Monday. Gary Armitstead Burbank, CA USA
  13. Mastercam on my machine is setup for English configuration. I need to design a part using metric units. I've changed the configuration to metric in Screen Configure, but the settings won't "hold". If I draw in metric, file it, then reset to English, it analyzes as metric, not inches. This can't be this difficult to do. Thanks for any help. Gary Armitstead Burbank, CA
  14. Your video card could be the problem. Decelerate the card a couple of notches or change the amount of colors (256?) Gary Armitstead Burbank, CA
  15. I am a Journeyman Die Sinker working in the So. Cal. area. We make drop forging dies and press dies for aerospace and commercial forgings. I have been doing this for 35 years. I started using MasterCam with version 3.1 in early 1992. We are now using V8 and it is impossible to comprehend where our shop would be, competitively, without this software. We have a small shop- 2 Haas mills- a VF2 and VF4. I'm the programmer-all multi-surface contouring and "radical" surface work. Gary Armitstead Burbank, CA
