  1. I hear sound, but don't see the video. I'm running WinXP Pro on a 3.2P4. Do I need a patch for Windows to run the video or what? A DVX patch? Thanks.
  2. I tried to stay out of this discussion, but I do have some observations. I don't know about the rest of you here, but I was trained as a "turn-the-handles die sinker". I wasn't even exposed to computers until 1989. I had no clue-I was not trained as an engineer or programmer before starting with MC 3.11 in 1990. But even then I was able to start drawing right away and programming some parts. When I retired in late 2003, I was using V9.1 SP2. At that time I was using solids and surfacing to make models for forgings for aerospace work. All this in a little 5 man shop producing forging dies, both precision no-draft and conventional draft dies. I DO have some experience with MasterCAM and I love it. But I do have a demo disc of MCX to play around with. And frankly, I don't like it. It just does not seem intuitive to me. If I were still working and had to make chips and money for the company(which is the bottom line, isn't it?), I would probably go back to V9. The new software just seems too much like an engineer-based software, not like the machinist background language of the older versions. Don't get me wrong. I believe MC will work the bugs out and sometime in the future, we will look back on this discussion with a smile. I just think that this is such a change, that the transition will be difficult for some older users of MC. Remember how associativity of geometry and toolpaths actually occurred over two sucessive versions? Maybe this should have been done here. Maybe the new interface could have been brought in with less of a shock. Maybe it was just not possible. I'm just curious, how many here are from the old "manual" days of machinists and don't have the formal training as engineers? Hope some of this makes sense. Just my .02. I'm STILL going to fuss around with X because I love to learn new things. I'm just glad that I don't have to try to make money with X now and that I would still have V9 to fall back to.
  3. Thanks Matt That did it! I had unchecked the Passive FTP before, but I did not reboot. I rebooted this time and it works. Thanks again.
  4. I have a new computer running XPPro SP2. I cannot access the FTP. With my old computer running Win2KPro, I had no problems accessing the site. Any suggestions? Settings? I'm probably doing something stupid!
  5. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll do it the RIGHT way!
  6. I have a new computer and I am trying to install the updates for V9.1. I have the zip files for SP1 and SP2 and all the C-hooks, Apps, etc. I can't get SP1 to take. Do I unzip to the MC9 folder or where? Appreciate the help. Thanks. Being retired, I guess I forgot a few things!
  7. You guys are great. Thank you for the help!
  8. Hey guys I looked at a Viewsonic VA912B tonight at Office Depot for $399 and a Sony SDM HS-95P for $599 minus a $100 rebate totaled $499. Hard to tell which to get. Thanks for the input people. What's the deal with ms response time and the nits brightness? Its been a long time since I purchased a new monitor-Greek to me!
  9. I need some recommendations for a great LCD monitor for around $600-$700. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
  10. Anyone remember the Commodore PET before the Commodore 64? Over thirty years ago!
  11. Hey guys Thanks for the info. My son-in-law is going to build this machine, so I will get the best components. I DO like Win2000Pro.
  12. Hey Bernie, I will e-mail and we can set-up a time and place for lunch. Would be great to meet you. I'll send an e-mail tonight-we are on our way out to dinner.
  13. I am going to build a new computer with both MC9 and MCX(DEMO) installed. I would like to have higher end performance, but I am retired! Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks
  14. According to the 3D Connection website, the Space Pilot goes for $499. Pretty nice though.
  15. This has happened to me before also. Before you mirror the surface, do a modify to NURBS. The cutter will see it. I'm not exactly sure what happens, but mirroring surfaces does some quirky things, even since V8-something in the "math".
  16. I just wanted to let everyone know that Johnny came through with the old files I needed. This forum is the BEST, with the BEST people. The help that comes from the individuals here is extrordinary. Thanks again Johnny for the help.
  17. Johnny That's the one I was looking for. I would appreciate it if you could e-mail to: [email protected] Thank you
  18. Is V9.1 SP1 available as a download anymore?
  19. And thought I was the ONLY one confused about this. It does pay to ask. This forum is great!
  20. I have not had a chance to install the Demo X yet, but I do have a question. I realize that Coons surfaces are now made with a C-hook. But what is the Create, surface, net surface? Is it similar to a coons?
  21. Thanks Bernie. I will try it.
  22. Will the installation of Demo X corrupt the hasp 3 sim? I understand that demo X does NOT use a sim-just for learning purposes. Should the hasp 3 be removed from the computer before the installation of the Demo X? [ 08-23-2005, 02:48 PM: Message edited by: Die Sinker ]
  23. In V9, there is a check-box in file save, where you tell it to save the image also. This will greatly increase the file size. I always unchecked this box.
