  3. I use auto save all the time but mastercam crashes on me while it is saving and that is when I lose my file.
  4. Jay, What causes these files to become corrupt in that file there were only draft flat boundary and a swept surface just a basic geometry for a core out insert. If I was only as good at creating good files as I am at corrupt ones life would be a beautiful thing. I even have a file at cnc software right now.Inhouse thinks I found a bug in 8.1.1 but still no word from the top dogs yet.
  5. Every once in a while when mastercam crashes on me while saving and then when I go back to try to retrieve the file I can usually see the bitmap but when I try to open it I get the message.. Incmpatable version numbers run Mc8 file converter Where is this converter and how do I get my surface back?
  6. One thing I would like to know though is step over or tolerance in the parallel program gonna increase or decrease the actual messure of volume is there a standard I should be using?
  7. Create a parrallel toolpath then post and save the nci file then ALT+C to bring up c-hooks and choose the volume c-hook and it will ask ya for your nci file after entered it will calculate volume for ya
  8. Rob, Try removing block numbers and white spaces in your program also if ya use a lil looser tolerance ya will get less lines which will help with that problem
  9. I created a revolved surface using the origin as as my axis of rotation now when I start trimming different parts of my revolved surface the center of my surfaces or changing from the origin does this number change because mastercam tries to refigure a new point for center of the trimmed surface not taken into acount for the part of the surface that has been removed or has this surface actually moved? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  10. I'll put my vote in on okuma
  11. I know contour will work but I am cutting stock right off the block and when I get to the bottom of the stock it starts to tear from the block usually breaking inserts or getting wedged between the cutter and the part and smoking the cutter so I want to bump the last .125 off using a lacing technique
  12. I am trying to radially cut a boss with walls that are parallel to my spindle but mcam won't give me a cutter path on the walls I also tried to use flowline but keep getting the surfaces don't follow a row which I have no idea what it means am I missing a parameter in my toolpath or how can I fix this row problem? Any help is always greatly appreciated as always and thanks in advance
  13. Occasionally I get that error also but the corrupt entities are surfaces and on some occasions I could of mirrored a surface to create 2 identical ones then when I reopen the drawing one will be corrupt. I have already downloaded every 8.1.1 patch anyone know what causes this?
  14. My comp came with ME and after about a month of crashes and errors even after upgrading to 516 megs of ram I partioned my drive and run all my cad software off 2000 Pro and haven't had a problem since
  15. If you run a parrallel program with a flat endmill I think you will find that your corner will not hold up I'd suggest using a cutter with a small rad like a 1/32 and 1/16 cutter will last a lot longer
  16. In g code I know that would be a plane selection error (g17,g18,g19...xy,zx,yz respectively) I'm not familiar with your conversational code but hopefully this will put ya a step in the right direction
  17. Millturn, That would be something I would be interested in for sure
  18. I'm gonna have to agree with James on that one and since I'm also a Pontiac driver Jamman please tell me ya aren't cruisin in a Honda?

  21. How's everyone doin I have a .100 fillet surface and I would like to to fade out to nothing by the time I get to thee end of the too walls which type of surface should I be tryin to create to get this effect and how would I go about doin it?. In advance thanks once again you guys don't know how valuable of a resourse and tool you have become for me through this learning curve I am going through.
  22. If I am understanding you correctly that you want to extend your chain so it starts before your block and ends after use modify/extend/length and then click on each end of your chain than go back into operations manager click on geometry than delete the chain in there right click and click on your extended chain.
  23. Jay, Acme has a whole system of inserted drills that has a range of sizes from 3/8" and up system can be hooked up with a jiffy into the machine coolant pump and is capable of running at feed rates of about 3"/ minute in steels like P-20 and up to 10" in softer steels like aluminum and brass.
  24. If you are using a tool changer why not set up a standard that you can use to guage where the part is at a known length then put tool in touch off using the same height offset and offset the difference may save time against guaging each tool individually
