changed cut depths from absolute to inc and that works good for the top.
Also im blending a rad in a bottom corner of a boss with the same toolpath and it seems to be leaving a step in the bottom. It is not blending to the flat surface.
I have that surface as a checked surface and i tried it leaving stock of 0 and .0001 and im getting the same thing.
any ideas?
Im trying to put a radius around a part and the toolpath will not hit the full rad on top. It starts a little bit down on the rad. So i dont get a full rad. What am i doing wrong.
Dude,
Just trust us its better....WAY better. Everyone had the same thoughts as you when they first opened x. It was like computer culture shock for me.
Either just jump into x completely and you will learn it quick or do what i did......When there are slow times just open it up and do some simple jobs on it.
Before you know it you wont ever look for the v9 icon again.
Just do it!!!!
I thought that was one of the big selling points for mcam. "you can just change machines and you dont have to worry about feeds and speeds"
So it does not automatically do this then.
Thats crappy.
I just set up all my machine defs for all the machines that i have. I was hoping that when changing the machines it would automatically change the feeds and speeds according to what the spindle max rpm is set in the mach def.
What happens is if i change from a machine with 10000 rpm to a mach with 8000 it will adjust the feed rate and the spindle speed but will not change the plunge rate.
Also when i go from a machine with 8000 to one with 10000 it changes nothing.
How do i set it up so i can change machines and mcam will update all the feeds and speeds in the rpm feed and plunge rates?
Sometimes you have to play with the hole sizes with a form tap. Try going .001 - .003 bigger with the drill size any you may get better results.
Also try putting a J1 in the tapping cycle and it will reverse at the same feed rate as it went in the hole at.
Just a couple of things to rule out what may be the problem.
Im doing a remachining operation and when i go to backplot it says that the operation has an invalid arc. When i continue with the backplot it does a weird arc and gouges the wall in the pocket i want to cut.
Any suggestions?
I put it on ftp under mcx2 files under the name remachine 1
Well i got it....im all hooked up with level 3 with solids. This is so exiting because i have been stuck on level 2 for so long. Hope i can transition into the surfacing toolpaths without alot of headaches.
wow that helps.
Maybe i will get L2 and see how i like it. Then later go to L3. Cant hurt right. Its not like you lose money doing it that way.
Plus it will be a bit easier for my boss to approve that way. I hope

You do have access to all of the roughing and finishing paths BUT if you want to do multiple surfaces, you're limited to the parallel path. So if im getting this strait the only surface toolpath you can use with multiple surfaces is finish parallel.
Rough parallel is a no go with multiple surfaces too.
Thanks for the input John.
Im exited to jump into the surfacing aspect of machining after doing 2d for many years.
Hope my boss agrees to get level 3 with solids
Thanks John,
Sounds like L2 is a little limited for me. I would rather have more options than just parallel finish. That sounds like it would be used if i wanted to surface a few corner rads or some angles here and there. But the work we are looking at is more complex than that. I need L3 for sure.
What about solid modeling. Is it better when doing surface toolpaths or can you get by just with surfaces?
We want to be able to do surface toolpaths and we have been getting quotes with the need to do this. Problem is that we only have level 1. I would like to know what the difference is between level 2 and 3. I know they can both do surface toolpaths but and that level 3 can also do hs surface toolpaths. I talked to reseller and kind of got the idea that its a pain to only have level 2 for surfacing. I may be mistaken but i thought that they said that you can only do one surface at a time with level 2. would that mean that every surface would have its own toolpath? My boss already said i could go ahead and get level 2 but i dont want to get it and be frustrated with it.
It doesnt really seem like many have level 2. I think its much smarter to go with level 3 even though it has many options that i may not use often. Just because you can go to multiple surfaces (if im correct on this).
Also what about solids? I have not worked with solids yet. Currently i have to change all solids to surfaces so i can work with it.
From what i hear solids are the way to go.
Any input is nice......thanks
anyone getting this whit around the folders. It only happens when i copy multiple operations. Select more than one operation and right click and drag. If i dont do that it stays normal.
