  2. I have a customer who would like me to machine pockets between bolt holes in a 18mm wide Linear Bearing Rail to lighten it. I'm not sure if these are case or thru hardened. I am assuming something like .18 depth and maybe 3/8 wide pocket. Anyone done any machining on these before? I have done very little hard metal machining in cnc. Running HAAS, 7500 RPM I understand rail is likely to move a little, not a big issue in this application. Any information would be appreciated, Thanks RB
  3. If I am not mistaken the only way to accomplish this would be to Transform - Offset Contour the desired stepover. Chain the offset contour first then desired contour when chaining toolpath. Using no multi pass and "by contour" in depth cuts. "By contour" will cut the first chain to full depth then go to the next chain. If by depth is selected in depth cuts it will cut as you are already getting using multi pass, each chain will be cut in order but one depth cut at a time. Select a new layer before creating offset geometry and it can be blanked in level manager to get it out of the way after used. HTH Have a good weekend
  4. Not sure exactly what you are looking for. Do you want cutter to make depth cuts to final Z depth before stepping over for next pass?
  5. I believe "by contour" will refer to more than one contour being machined. You can accomplish what (I think) you are looking for by unchecking Multi Pass and leaving stock in X, Y, and use two operations to get to final contour. HTH
  6. Manually = Alt+F12 - Select rotation point for 3D Connexion device Not in a C-Hook but this works in X3 MU1
  7. If depth called out, create curve top edge of hole, Xform-translate to depth, solid extrude draft outward. Love it Thanks kunfuzed
  8. Thanks for the help, my reseller showed me where the control panel applet is. Since I have a shortcut on desktop I dont go to Start/All Programs very often. Now a lot of other threads make some sense. Thanks again RB
  9. I was unable to find "components" in control panel. Used Mastercam X utility, tried to un-reg then register, bottom of window stated -ole. initialize failed -both times Using Vista I also get the not a valid win32 app warning tnx
  10. I am having this problem as well, how do you re-register the dll file? Thanks in advance RB
  11. gcode, i will try that as soon as i can, off to dinner. I will have to try to get that off the disk as i am pretty sure i overwrote it with my own from x2. Colin G, all 3 buttons set to "break rapid moves" tnx
  12. I checked that out first and none of the 17000 series numbers in table are close to what i saw in my post. I then (after posting ?) checked my old machine and it was doing the same thing. I feel like an idiot now but still am curious as to why this is happening. I noticed max depth var in paramaters is set to .005 same as my cut depth but it is also blanked out-unable to change. I dont think thats it. Thanks for the reply, you have definitely helped me a lot learning MC
  13. Just installed X3 MU1. Was using MR2 SP1 on older comp, bought new laptop to start using X3. Imported MMD files, solved a few issues. I now have a Z axis feed rate posting by itself on a line with no movement. G0 Z.06 X.5924 Y-.7454 Z-.257 G1 Z-.282 F3.5 X.6019 Y-.7831 F9. F3.5 X.6366 Y-.9215 F9. X.5194 Y-.8401 F3.5 X.4875 Y-.8179 F9. G0 Z.06 I have searched and searched for this and came up empty. I know its has to be simple, just cant find it. No high low feed issues, any help would be greatly appreciated Haas 4x mill post Thanks in advance
  14. Thanks guys, last thing I wanted to do is pee what little I have away on something that may not do the job. That comp looks pretty nice for me John, thanks for your help guys.
  15. My experience (limited) No Drill cycles = fairly accurate. With Drilling its always off. The more peck drilling the worse it gets. Does not account for pecking reract, peck clearance etc. Just depth at specified feed.
  16. Not sure if I should have started this or posted in another comp thread. I would appreciate opinion on this model using for MC. I am using a hp 512 laptop with 1gig ram upgrade, it has 32 meg video soldered in. been using it for just over a year this way and have been very happy but it is definitely slow. Using MC X2 MR2 SP1 X3 in box till I find something else. 17. I believe the quick verify button in the backplot dialog box is what they are referring to and it does what you are after, the quick verify in the verify dialog box shows all at once. HTH
  18. Thanks for all the help guys, it is appreciated.
  19. You can right click in operations mgr window, look for edit option, I think you will be looking for "change at point". You have the ability to change feed rates and rpm etc at any point on toolpath. Can't be more specific, my hasp is at work. Been a while since I used that option. HTH
  20. I believe you can follow the link above your post from Takashi (installer for X3)
  21. Would anyone be willing to mail me the zip containing the above referenced post ref guide, I have been able to make a few simple changes here and there (with help from my reseller). What I know about these codes you could write on the head of a pin with a wide tip marker, I would like to learn more. I have tried many times to get to ftp site, followed directions etc, to no avail. Thanks RB [email protected]
  22. Dead Money, I would be a newbie here but I am going to throw my 2c in anyway. This forum is a wonderful source and I have learned a lot in a short time reading here. Welcome Setup Time: sound like you may have a lot of smaller issues not necessarily one big one and you are not going to have time to stand around figuring out what they are, you need feedback. try getting floor personnel to take notes on what they believe held up any given setup. take a glance every night and you may be surprised to find half the crew looking for the same thing 20 min a day or fighting the same type of problem each day.Pick your battles and fix as you go. In some shops 12 ratchets and sockets will save many hours in a month (simple example but true). Do something good with the input and you will begin to get more of it in better quality from your people. I believe the earlier comments on seat time are absolutely true, takes time and it is worth it. You will find operations libraries will save a lot of time on similar parts. A standard set of roughing and finishing tools for each machine could help save you a lot in the long run as a programmer. Like someone stated earlier, find what works for you in each material and be consistent using them, you've already seen them work and know what to watch for, every success builds more confidence, with that comes speed. A simple man makes a complex part by planning ahead and taking many simple steps one at a time. I hope you can get something good from this as I just put most of the guys that will be helping you to sleep!!! Best of luck and never be afraid to ask...
  23. 3/4 Dia. YG-1 Speed Freak 3 flute T-15 Powder Coated HS .06 Corner Rad. .005 -.007 per tooth. My machine is 7500 rpm and I run 6000 @ 75 IPM .4 stepover .5 deep contouring. A little less depth for pocket maybe. I get great life contouring, bit less pocketing. book says 10k rpm @ 200 IPM I finish with solid carb Hope this helps
