  1. I guess I understand the different comp controls, but the way this company is run, I don't think we need to worry about anything other than computer comp. I think Superman's got it nailed, that our goofy xxxx mill just doesn't like to do full arcs. It'll do circles, and 90 degree arcs, but not 180's. Breaking the arcs fixed the problem, so I'm going to stick with doing that should the problem arise again
  2. Thanks for the tips. Breaking the arc seems to work fine, and it's just as easy for the work we usually do as changing the comp settings. We usually just leave the comp setting at computer, and let it do it's thing. More than anything because I sure as heck don't understand the difference, and our old machinist isn't entirely sure either lol
  3. Well, we managed to fix it by breaking the arc at the center of it. It seems that the Hurco didn't like such a small 180 degree cut or something, and doing 90 degree arcs fixed the problem. Stupid thing lol
  4. Ok, we've tried a couple of things, and some clarification is in order. First, it does the small holes without a problem. It will also do a hole the size of the larger one (0.1075 radius), but will not do a slot shape that's two 0.1075 radius circles separated by 0.075" at the center. It also won't do a slot mill, which we just tried
  5. You aren't kidding. The thing has a mind of its own most days. I'll check it out tomorrow and see what happens
  6. thanks for the tip. I'm no expert in machining (not by a long shot), so what do you recommend it be? Hopefully we'll be able to find that setting. What doesn't make any sense is that it has no problem with the 0.0675 radius hole (0.0363 radius toolpath), but it kicks out the error at the 0.1075" hole/slot (0.076 radius toolpath). So it doesn't have an issue with a smaller radius, but puts out an error on a larger radius.
  7. I should add that we're using a 2D contour toolpath for the entire thing, at a depth of -0.022" As well as using MCam X4, MU3
  8. We've got a Hurco VM1, and are trying to cut a few small holes (radius 0.1075" and 0.0675") with a 1/16" endmill. We run it through MCam, and it posts just fine with no errors, but when it pops up on the mill it says "corner radius too small". Now, we cut the same pattern earlier, with the same size holes, and didn't have this trouble (and yes, it's kicking out the error on the same line, regarding the 0.1075" hole). Anyone have any experience dealing with this issue, or something similar?
  9. speaking of Hurco's, and I don't really mean to jack the thread, but we've got a VM-1 here at our shop, and occasionally when you use the probe, the machine locks up when trying to change tools from the probe to anything else. It seems the only way to then get it running again is to shut the machine down manually (throw the switch) and re-start it. Yesterday, that didn't even work, and we had to try to remove the tool through the manual override buttons on the top of the machine, which then caused us to break another probe. Can't say the boss is too happy with poor programming on Hurco's part.
  10. And my problem comes while running X4 MU3 on 64-bit windows, but I can't open SW parts or assemblies. I wonder if there's a setting in SW to save the parasolid data in the part and assembly files?
  11. I tend to have the same problem. Every single time I try to open a solidworks file (part or assembly) in MCam, I get the same "no parasolid data" error. It bothers me a little bit, but I just save my SW files I need to use in MCam as a parasolid to bring them into MCam. If you find a real solution, I'd be very appreciative.
  12. We've got a VM-1 here, and the generic fanuc post seems to work just fine. I'm no expert, but we haven't had any issues with it that I know of
  13. whoops, sorry about that Bruce. I must have been a bit dyslexic when I was reading and read that date wrong.
  14. Awesome! Thanks guys (I knew it had to be in there somewhere)
  15. This might be a stupid/simple question that I should already know the answer to, but I feel like asking anyway. Is there a way to see how long a certain toolpath will actually take? Does MCam have the ability to calculate machining time?
  16. ciro, randle, bruce, and colin: Take a look at the post date of the OP's post. Nearly 5 years ago. I don't think he has this question anymore
  17. I guess that would explain it. I've got an ATI card in my machine...pretty high end, so it shouldn't do this in my opinion
  18. Are there certain graphics cards MCam doesn't play nice with? Any time I try to sketch a line, or do anything really, it leaves little "ghost" lines all over the place where the line has been. A repaint fixes it, but it's just extremely annoying EDIT: I'm using MCam X4
  19. I guess the other machine uses the CIMCO editor, and that seems to work on my machine, so I changed the configuration file to use that one instead.
  20. I believe mcedit is on my machine, as it should have installed with Mcam (correct?). I don't see any files pertaining to mastercam other than the ones people have saved there. I'm pretty sure we don't run any programs off the server, just save the documents to it (and thus transfer them to other computers and the mill). I do know that the editor runs just fine on the other machine we use MCam on, and I can open files I've made on that machine and see the code, but not on my own machine
  21. Is there any reason the mc editor would be crashing before even opening the code when it gets posted? I'm assuming it has something to do with not actually being connected to the machine (I run MCam on a different machine than the one with the HASP on it, or however that works). However, the hasp and mill and everything else is connected to the same server my computer's able to connect to. Is there a setting somewhere I have to change? This is a week old installation of MCam, and I haven't gotten back up to speed on all of the settings and everything.
  22. Rats, that would have made this project SOOO much easier. On a side note, is there any reason the mc editor would be crashing before even opening the code when it gets posted? I'm assuming it has something to do with not actually being connected to the machine (I run MCam on a different machine than the one with the HASP on it, or however that works)
  23. Is there a way to take an nc file and import it back into mastercam to get the mastercam to regenerate an mcx file? In other words, if I've got an nc file from someone else who didn't send me the mcx file, can I take that nc file and get mastercam to open it and regenerate the toolpaths and part and everything?
