  1. I am milling a part that is cylindrical. I am using a 4th axis for the rotation. I have to create a new T-Plane for every flat on the part. Whenever I post the program using a custom post I have, it keeps assigning a different work coordinate for every flat. Here is the part of program I am talking about. N269 G54 X1.6025 Y-.2836 Z2.6693 A6.008 N270 G1 Z2.4443 F15. After milling the pocket out it has to index to the next position, and I get this. N484 G55 X2.4365 Y-.2836 Z2.6693 A12.016 N485 G1 Z2.4443. It keeps changing my G54 to G55, then to G56, and so on. Any ideas????
  2. Yes, but I don't want to transform the tool paths around the object along the same line as the original. I want to rotate the toolpath only 6 degrees and need to move it up the part about an inch. I think it is like a combination of translating and rotating.
  3. I am looking to transform a tool path from one point on the outside of a cylinder to another point on the outside of the cylinder. I try using Transform Toolpath, Translate, Tool Plane. I need to transform the tool path to 3 points which have different tool planes, I am milling a bunch of flats on the outside of the clyinder. Everytime I try it, I am not getting what I want. I dont want to have to rotate the part and do all of the toolpaths one by one. Any ideas or suggestions???
  4. Can I just key in a -2.5 for half the diamter of the part? Will that work?
  5. The part I am running has the z origin set in the center of the cylinder. The cylinder is 5 inches in diameter. Instead of the origin being the top of the part, the origin is in the center. How do I set the Z offset in the offset menu on a VF4 to accomplish having the center of the part the origin for the Z moves in the program come off of the center line of the part? Any ideas of suggestions would be great.
  6. I got it working. All I did Dave was cleared out all the work offsets, and rehomed the machine and it worked. Thanks. Justin K.
  7. The origin for the part is: X: Left Side/Face Y: Middle of the part Z: Middle of the part
  8. Here is the chunk of program that is giving me the problem. On the line N5, the Y0. is where I am getting the alarm message at. N1 G00 G17 G20 G40 G80 G90 N2 (WCS NAME - TOP) N3 (TOOLPLANE NAME - TOP) N4 T6 M06 ( 3/4 BALL ENDMILL) N5 G00 G90 G54 X5.1632 Y0. A-20.654 S2037 M03 N6 G43 H6 Z4.5 N7 Z2.6
  9. I know this isn't a CNC forum, but I need a little help. I am ready to run the part I have been designing. It is a cylinder that is 4" long, 5" diameter. The part is in a rotary axis on a HAAS VF4. The part in mastercam is drawn with the G54 origin at the very center of the part. I set my G54 in the machine and go to run the program in graphics, and I keep getting a Y-Overtravel alarm. When setting the work coordinate in the machine. I come in with a half inch endmill and touch off the part, and then move over half the cutter for the x. The Y, i do the same thing, but move in an extra 2.5 inches, the radius of the part. I dont know what I am doing wrong to give me a Y overtravel alarm. Any ideas or suggestions?
  10. I did this and have the work coordinate where I want it, but it still thinks that the top of my part is 2.5 inches above where it really is. I was thinking that this may be because when I select rotary axis to do the 4th axis, I put in a diameter of 5 inches for the stock. And also, I have to mill a bunch of flats on the outside of the part and want to mill them on the top of the part, when I changed the work coordinate by moving the part, it rotates the part and cuts them on the side instead of the top.
  11. How do you change the G54 in X. I am drawing a part that is cylinderical in shape and the top of the part is at Z0.0, when looking from the top. For some reason, mastercam is thinking that the top of the part is at Z2.5 and that the center of the part is at 0.0 Everytime I try to create a toolpath, I put in my depth as say -.095 and mastercam takes the tool halfway down through the part. To .095 below the origin. To get it to cut where I want I have to put my cutting depth at 2.375 Any ideas?
  12. I just talked to HAAS tech support and found out that HAAS machines require a null modem connection. i am getting hold of the proper connection and going to try that, hopefully it does the trick. if not, i am going to look into the cimco software. thanks for the help
  13. I am trying to send a program from Mastercam Editor to my HAAS VF-4 and it is not working. I have the machine waiting to recieve but when I send, the computer acts like it is sending something to somewhere, but just not to my machine. Any ideas????
  14. The value that I am seeing on the G43 line for every tool is: G43 H0
  15. I am running a 1994 HAAS VF4 milling center with a rotary 4th axis. What is the best post to use for this machine. I notice that the generic HAAS 4x provided by Mastercam doesn't assign any offset values (H1, H2, etc...) to my tools in the post. What is a good post to use for this?
  16. I got the problem of mastercam shutting down fixed. my mcamx.config file was corrupted and that is what was causing the problem. it is fixed and working well. thanks for all the suggestions.
  17. Well, it worked for the most part. I got the second flat working on the cylinder, but now i try to move onto the third point on the cylinder and it still keep shutting x down.
  18. Thanks. I may have figured away around it by creating a circle on the points that i need to machine on around the cylinder. i just then align the t plane to its geometry.
  19. I need to rotate the T-Plane along the x-axis -6.0082 degrees. Everytime I try to rotate the T Plane, Mastercam X crashes on me. I can change the T Plane to one already specified by Mastercam such as Right, Bottom, Back, etc... but every time I try the rotate command, it crashes. Any help would be good!!! It was mentioned before about uploading my drawing to FTP site for help, but everytime I try to open it is says an error occured opening the folder, make sure you have permission. The connection to the server was reset.
  20. I will have to wait until I am back at work to share the file. wont be until after the weekend.
  21. Everytime I try to rotate my plane along the x axis, just when I hit accept, Mastercam shuts down and gives me a dialogue box that says mastercam has encountered a probem and has to shut down. I installed the service pack 1 and the update and still keep having this problem. any ideas.
