    ramp cutting

also ....i forgot.i am using wear for tool comp.this tends to (for me)lessen the thinking on the operator for tool offsets.i really dont want to use two comp styles in on prog.it would make things a mess

    ramp cutting

i appriciate the response,i didnt want to make the initial statement too long,so here we go. lets say the dia. is 12 inch's,going to cut c/w g2,with ramp option, going .010 deep each revolution, until .053 deep. im using fanuc controller and post.the rambo action is not visible on the backplot or verify.im grinding quartz with diamond tooling.my only other option so far is to feed .010 deep at a location then do g2 and repeat this 5 times then once .003this wears the diamond tooling more so than ramping around this dia.
  3. cutting a diameter using ramp option and telling it how far to ramp every rotation(sometimes being 1-30 rotations)until programmed depth is reached.when it reaches finall depth, say doing g02 it will kick a weird g03 move at the end and rambo thru the area not need to be cut.and yes i have no lead in lead out programmed thanks in advance
  4. i make a living machining quartz silica(different than commercial glass)it is hader so speeds & feeds may vary.i personally would use a diamond plated ball tool, this way the diamond wont wear so quick.spindle usually around 6500-8500 rpm, feeds around8-12 ipm.this all depends on engraving type, lettering, designs etc...if you need aditionall info let me know and we will exchange e-mail or phone #

    LATHE TOOLS

thanks pno i will do that then, draw in mastercam or a/cad and import them that way
  6. IS THERE A WAY TO IMPORT "CUSTOM" TOOLS TO LATHE TOOL LIBRARY WITHOUT HAVING TO DRAW THEM AND ADDING THEM LATER TO THE LIBRARY?I USE DIAMOND TOOLING I.E CUP WHEELS(11 V9) CUT OFF BLADES,DIAMOND ROUTER ETC...I DO NOT USE ANY OF THE TOOLS IN THE LIBRARY THAT ARE SUPPLIED.IF NOT I WILL CONTINUE DOING IT THE WAY I AM--THANKS
  7. I KNOW .........BUT I AM USED TO IT BECAUSE OF PROGRAMMING WITH TEXT THIS WAY,NO OFFENSE
  8. I HAVE KNOWLEDGE IN MACHINIG QUARTZ SILICA DIAMOND TOOLING,HIGH PRESSURE COOLANT,HIGH SPINDLE SPEEDES(6500-10000)FEED RATES VARY DEPENDING ON DEPTH AND WIDTH OF CUTS.YOU CAN BE AGGRESSIVE TO WITHIN .050 OF SPEC. THEN GO TO FINER GRIT TO GET FINISH AND GET RID OF SUBSURFACE FRACTURES THAT THE AGRESSIVE TOOL MAY HAVE DEVELOPED.ANY QUESTIONS BE MORE THAN HAPPY TO HELP
