  1. I have two solids that I am trying to remove one solid from the other. When I tell Mastercam to execute the boolean remove I get this message: "Boolean remove operation falied. Boolean remove operation would result in a disjoint body. Create non-associative boolean?" Can someone tell me what causes this failure? I have gotten this message several other times and just gave up. If I knew what causes this error, I may be able to avoid it in the future. I am afraid I am relativly new to solids and the do's & don'ts. Thanks in advance for everybodies help.
  2. Thanks Roger That is a lot faster than redrawing a bunch of arcs. Can't say I understand exactly what the 'views' are all about. This forum is an awesome tool for those of us that get lost easily.
  3. After further review, I had to redraw all the radii to get the profile to cut. The profiles cut fine before I merged in the ACAD file. Also the profile was created by taking 1 profile and mirroring about "Y" (lh to rh). This caused the arcs on the rh side of the profile to cut on the inside of the profile while all the lines were cutting on the outside of the profile.
  4. I did analyze the chain and found no overlapping entities. I tried offsetting the contour and the profile disappeared completly, no matter which direction (L,R) I tried to offset it.
  5. I copied a file to the ftp site in the MC9 folder called contour problems.mc9. I am trying to contour cut both of these profiles with no luck at all. I have been running Mastercam for almost 8 years now and have seen this problem only a couple of times. The profiles are saved out of an existing MC9 file and merged into an AutoCad file that I igsed in. My guess is that it's an AutoCad related problem and somehow is affecting the profiles created in and copied from a Mastercam file. If I merge the AutoCad file into the MC9 file the profiles cut fine. Does any body know what causes this? From now on I will merge the AutoCad file into the MC9 file. I'm just curious as to what causes this. We work very closly with AutoCad and Mastercam.
  6. Rob, you're not alone. I have verified toolpath, seen nothing wrong. Run the toolpath overnight on a ren wood pattern, turn on the lights in the morning and have a busted endmill and a gouge have way thru my part. Scary!!! I try to be very careful with rapid plains and rely on backplotting from a front or side view.
  7. Hey Crazy, I am having trouble with Mastercam and my HP plotter, not ACAD and my HP plotter. The plotter works flawlessly with ACAD. From Mastercam I can send a plot or print to the plotter and get an 8.5x11.0 print. I can't get it to give me and e size print. If you would read my first posted message, I think I stated that. Don't get wrong guys, I love Mastercam and wouldn't use anything else. I just think something as simple as picking a print device and paper size shouldn't require me to go to more than one place and change a setting or two.
  8. Thanks for all the help guys. I have tried everything being very carefull to follow your directions, but I still can't get an e size plot. I have tried using plot and hardcopy. I'll set the paper size to e, ok the settings, the window than closes. When I reopen the settings page (without plotting), the paper size keeps defaults back to a. If I try and plot it I get an a size with a small portion of the drawing at 1:1. This is a lot more hassle than I have time for. Maybe Mastercam can improve this on future versions. I can igs out the dwg and read it in to ACAD to get my e size plot. I don't understand way this is giving me so much trouble. I am not a novice on the computer, but I am not a wizzard either.
  9. I may have the cart infront of the horse here. We recently purchased a portable cmm (Faro Arm). We have not received the unit yet. I am vaguely familiar with the options for collecting the data. If I understand this correctly, I am going to get a 'cloud' of points. These points can be as tight or loose as I want. What is the best way to convert this data to something I can surface and cut? 10. I desinged a part with MasterCam Solids. When I try and plot it on e size paper, all I get is an 8.5x11.0 plot. I have made sure that the correct paper size is picked. I must be missing something. Can anybody help? [ 01-20-2004, 09:29 AM: Message edited by: gibbs machine corp ]
  11. I'm in a jam. My DNC system is maxed out. I am swamped with work and need to DNC to an old relic of a cnc mill over in the corner of the shop. I am trying to use Mastercam to communicate with the mill. My computer only has one com port and it is com1. I have an internal modem configured to com3. When I try to change the Mastercam communication settings to send to com1, they change back to sending to com2. HELP!!!! Gibbs Machine Corp
