  1. Nothing much has changed up north in michigan either I make upper teens hourly and low 20's with bonuses and thats programming and quoting all cnc related jobs plus cranking handles if the cnc's are on long cycle times. A few guys making 60-70k a year but are desinging molds as well as programming. thats why i'm in school now at 27 working on a design degree. All shops about the same in area and they stick together pretty well. The company contributes 15% for retirement though so I stay.

  2. YEp thats the way I do it hear to. I do all the programming and all the machine operating unless its a production job then i put someone on it to load the parts. If the cycle times are long enough i will program the rest of the job while the machine is cutting. Bur sometimes I will just program the whole job and while the machine is cutting i will get started programming the next job to run. Its nicer that way not so much running teh xxxx off.

  3. your right Millman and good point I have always just went into an isometric view and moved my part from where i wanted the zero on the part to the origin and never had any troulbe or I would use the ucs But if i am in a front or side view it goes to the wrong place in space. But I tried going to a front and doing it your way and it worked very well. Learn something everyday wink.gif

  4. Turned 27 on 6/14,. Been at this trade for eight years now and i think it has went from being a job to becoming my only hobby.(Pretty sad I know) Even to the point where i am on my second year of design at the local college and have set up a little prototrac in my garage for side work. The wife thinks i am crazy but I guess there are worse and more expensive hobbies to be in.

  5. I am just wondering if anyone knows how many cows this farm actually sends out for beef consumption every month. I live in a farm community and our dairy cows are not the same as beef cows and either are the farms. Just wondering because the beef cows usually have higher regulations on them as far as testing and care procedures as far as meat carrying diseases go. Dairy cows are not often tested for diseases themselves just there milk. Nothing like eating a tuff old dried up milk cow.um-um

  6. Nope just no a shop (competitor) down the road has one and i see they are alittle cheaper than the haas. I am wondering though about the dirrect drive on the haas conpared to the geared head option as these machines will be used for cutting molds. I know they say the geared head is better for heavy hogging. But for moderate cutting at higher feeds is the standard dependable. Just looking for feedback from people that actually use em not just the sales guys. And thanks for the responses.

  7. Just wondering if any of you gentlemen are using or now of anyone using the fryer line of mills and what you can tell me about them? We are currenlty looking at a new haas VF-5 with highspeed and a salesrep dropped off a flyer for the fryer ( biggrin.gif ) this weeek. Any oppinions would be great as i am trying to find the best machine for under a 100k that has about 24+ travel in the y axis. OH yeah and need to have it paid for by the end of the year. (nothing like a weeks notice on that one rolleyes.gif )

  8. That’s about how I did it also. I made one of the lines into a curve ( the highest one) then did a surface fill holes to pick that face for my UCS source face. Then I set construction plane to 3-d and moved the part from the center of the arc I created to the origin. Then I rotated into a lathe position. The reason for this is the customer supplied a cross section of the part to cut on a print with no dimensions and my boss acts like it is a 20sec thing to do (even though he can't send an email) so I was a little pissed and wanted you experienced users to have a look at the part. I know they were probably using a solid model for there cross section. It is a piece of cake for me a solids but with surfacing it is different ball game. Anyway thanks for all the help Rick it is greatly appreciated. I'll have to wait till I get to work to get the file.
