  1. Haas machines are simple to set up, make sure to match the settings between CNC and DNC software (use "set graphics" & "page down" buttons to access RS-232 parameters).

I use: 19200, E, 7, 1 (change to lower baudrate if you have longer cable distance and having transfer problems).

Here is a trick: If you set up Haas in Xon/Xoff mode, it will not "wait for Xon", so I set it in "DC code" mode and it will "wait for Xon". (Still use Xon/Xoff or software handshake in DNC software).

  2. Pete,

Ok, fine, maybe "Edit, Simplfy" is not a great example, however, what we are asking is to add a function that would get the same results as the "toolpath way", it doesn't matter whatever you call it. What do you think?

    Terry,

  3. Pete,

For years we do this work around:

    - Contour the splines

    - Turn ON filter setting in contour parameters

    - Turn OFF cutter comp and lead in/out

    - Backplot the toolpath and save geo

The saved geo is what works best. Could you add it as a Mastercam spline convert function (without have to do a toopath)?

It would be great if you could make "Edit" -> "Simplify" to do this.

    Thanks!

  4. Steve,

In DNC-Max, under Port config --> Remote request --> Remote Start/Stop, you can enable to start file from line number/block number/tool number and loop count.

If you are doing manual Send/Receive, use Send File Advanced, then select your choice from "Send from" drop down. You can also paste safety codes in the window there.

  5. RAJ,

Are you runing NetHasp? Sounds like your Mastercam is runing ok, right?

Try update your CIMCO Edit OEM v4 to the latest version from here

If this doesn't help, call our tech support and we can "look" at your computer via internet to do trouble shoot.

polishman, you might want to try the v4 update as well, if you haven't done it already.

    HTH.

  6. BTR shouldn't care that DNC software is sending the file, we use BTR with DNC-Max or CIMCO Edit all the time, before that, we've used the same BTRs with other DNC software include Mastercam's DOS communicate thingy.

I have a feeling that the BTR is not setup correctly or not used correctly, you wouldn't need the section.dll when you can drip feed with BTR.

  7. Most Fanuc 6M that I've seen comes with a standard RS-232 port/with a blue punch cable connector and tape reader. The RS-232 port is used for upload/download to memory. For customers who require "drip feeding", we unplug the tape reader and plug it into a BTR so they can do both "memory" and "drip feeding".

    quote:

he was using btr to drip with and now trying to use the rs232 port

What's wrong with the BTR way?

  8. DNC-Max from CIMCO is a good way to go:

    1. You can setup a DNC Server network with all MC PCs, then setup hardware connections from DNC Server to all 4 of your machines. You can then upload/download files remotely right at the CNCs.

    2. One of our customer likes to send files from the MC PCs manually, we setup a DNC Server with 6 DNC-Max Remote Clients so any of their 6 programmers can send files to any of their 24+ machines.

  9. Wait for Xon should be used with Softawre Handshake. Maybe you can try the following:

    1. Change to use Software Handshake (Xon/off).

    2. Just for testing, remove wait for signal setting on PC, get CNC ready for receive and then send the file from PC - see if you get anything at all.

What DNC software are you using anyway?

  10. Ok, a few more things to try:

    1. Plug in a RS-232 tester to make sure the port on CNC is not "dead" for receiving.

    2. Double check the parameter on CNC:

I/O should be 0, Format should be ISO (not EIA), PAR#0002 bit 2 should be 0 & bit 0 should be 1. (don't forget to write down the original settings before make any changes)

    3. Fanuc OT should not need any special EOF character other than the %, but you can always try a few ASCII 0's.
