  1. I have been having the same issue for weeks. The problem starts with the OS of Windows 10, more specifically with the updates which are released periodically. From my understanding, the cause for this specific issue with Mastercams Tool Manager is Windows 10 build 16299.64 of version 1709. When contacting support for Mastercam, they will tell you it's a graphics card issue, but it isn't entirely the reason for this issue. Windows is keeping a tight lip on what the exact nature of the issues are in it's latest update. Windows 10 is a different breed of computer with cloud based OS. Many servers are located outside of the country, which if you are sending ITAR info, could even be labeled a federal offense. The best thing to do IMO would be to have your IT department put your Mastercam on a different machine (Windows 7 is what I'd suggest). Your only other option may be to wait it out and hope Windows releases a patch for the issues..but that's not certain, and also won't safeguard you from any future updates that may bring about other issues in the future. I don't feel Windows 10 belongs in a business atmosphere, but that's just me. -Mike
  2. Hello, I have a series of mill vises designed in SolidWorks that I would like to implement in my programs for Mastercam. How would you suggest I define these? I would like to have a "start part" file where I would open whichever "Start Part" (which would basically be the vise being used) and simply merge the part I wish to machine and orient it to my vise and begin programming from there. Is there a better way to go about this? I have a design background where we would create "start parts" to make projects move quickly and I am always thinking in terms of efficiency. Any input or knowledge of this subject matter would be appreciated! -Mike
  3. Hello, We currently run Mastercam 2017 and have a Haas ST-10Y C-Axis lathe we are having minor post related issues. When sending code to the machine with C-Axis toolpaths such as "Cross Contour" milling operations, the code generates a "G18" which our operator claims to be reason for the machine to alarm out. When manually editing to a "G19", the program runs flawlessly. I was wondering how I go about adjusting the generic post in Mastercam to utilize "G19" as opposed to "G18" by default. We program many machines, so I am taking the operators word that this is the problem as I have had no time of my own to investigate the issues personally. *** P.S. - The generic post we are using is "GENERIC HAAS ST 4X MT LATHE" and was suggested by a Mastercam support tech.   4. Hello, We have a Haas VM-3 mill with a 5th axis TR160 trunnion on its way and I was wondering if any of the generic posts in Mastercam were adequate in posting for this particular machine definition? If not, can anyone point me in the right direction of getting a post? Thanks
  5. Hello, I am programming a part with a face slot and it needs to be done using a grinding wheel. I understand it's not the traditional way of approach, but there's nothing traditional about machining soft carbide. Typically, a C-Axis Face Contour would be the go-to operation, but in this case I need the wheel to approach perpendicular to the face. That said, I select C-Axis Contour to orient my tool correctly. I created a tool using an endmill and defined it to replicate my grinding wheel. The problem is that Mastercam, by default, wants to utilize Rotary Axis Substitution. Also, my depth of cut and such seem to be driven from the O.D. of the part when it's the face that I need identified as "Top of Stock". I also seem to be unable to adjust my Planes to orient my tool. Any help in getting the wheel to approach correctly would be appreciated. I attached a screenshot of the part and tool.
  6. My apologies if it appeared that way. I've had no luck searching the forums in regards to machining soft carbide using MasterCam. I was hoping to learn some tips and tricks regarding the manipulation of toolpaths or perhaps assigning soft carbide as my material to drive speeds and feeds and such. I'm new to the forums and moderately new to Mastercam.
  7. Hello, I am new to the forums and was wondering who all has experience with machining soft carbide? Unlike steel and other metals, carbide is very unique in the way it must be machined. You have to bend the rules of MasterCam in order to generate effective toolpaths/cuts. Curious if any others in the community also machine carbide preforms. Thanks
