  1. Jack, I am so sorry to hear about your Father. Know that you will be in the forum's collective thoughts tomorrow. Your Wife, and you, are in my prayers. Peace and strength to you in these tough times. Phil
  2. Smit, Put down the mouse and slowly back away from the monitor. You didn't miss much. Page upon page of anti-war on Iraq stuff and some nasty pics of the dead and dismembered. Phil
  3. Elad, I hope this is not offencive to you. I will remove it if it is. quote: A bright, young, fresh-out-of-school auditor just joined the IRS, excited to begin tracking down high-powered offenders-such as the Enron or WorldCom guys. Anxious for his first high-powered audit, he was a bit dismayed when his assignment was to audit a Rabbi. Looking over the books, his taxes pretty straight forward, the Rabbi was clearly very frugal , so he thought he'd make his day interesting by having a little fun with the Rabbi. "Rabbi," he said, "I noticed that you buy a lot of candles." "Yes," answered the Rabbi. "Well, Rabbi, what do you do with the candle drippings?" he asked. "A good question," noted the Rabbi. "We actually save them up and when we have enough, we send them back to the candle maker. And every now and then, they send us a free box of candles." "Oh," replied the auditor somewhat disappointed that his unusual question actually had a practical answer. So he thought he'd go on, in his obnoxious way... "Rabbi, what about all these matzo purchases? What do you do with the crumbs from the matzo?" "Ah, yes," replied the Rabbi calmly, "we actually collect up all the crumbs from the matzo and when we have enough, we send them in a box back to the manufacturer and every now and then, they send a box of matzo balls." "Oh," replied the auditor, thinking hard how to fluster the Rabbi. "Well, Rabbi," he went on, "what do you do with all the foreskins from the circumcisions?" "Yes, here too, we do not waste," answered the Rabbi. "What we do is is save up all the foreskins, and when we have enough we actually send them to the I.R.S." "The I.R.S.?," questioned the auditor in disbelief. "Ahh, yes," replied the Rabbi, "the I.R.S." ...and about once a year, they send us a little xxxx, just like you." This was sent to me this am. Phil
  4. I was able to get this to work on my second try. I initially was using the mc8 directory. I applied the "three" files in this order. Alt.dll,mcdescr.dll,mcview.dll Hope this helps. Phl
  5. Larry, quote: I wonder if saying the same on this forum has damage me I can't speak for others, but for me, your comments have done just the opposite. It takes a brave person to expose their inner fears for others to see. You have my respect and I salute you. Phil [ 02-07-2003, 01:09 PM: Message edited by: PhilCott ]
  6. Jack, I will mention the name of the thread. Written by Dennis Lambert & Brian Potter (1969) quote: The Lyrics to "One Tin Soldier" Listen children, to a story, that was written long ago. About a kingdom, on a mountain, and the valley folk below. On the mountain, was a treasure, burried deep beneath a stone and the valley people swore they'd have it for their very own. Go ahead and hate your neighbor, go ahead and cheat a friend, do it in the name of Heaven, you can justify it in the end. There wont be any trumpets blowing, come the judgement day. On the bloody morning after, One Tin Soldier rides away. So the people of the valley, sent a message up the hill, asking for the buried treasure, tons of gold for which they'd kill. Came an answer, from the kingdom, with our brothers, we will share, all the secrets, of our mountain, all the riches buried there. Now the valley, cried with anger, mount your horses, draw your swords, and they killed the, mountain people. So they won their just rewards. Now they stand, beside the treasure, on the mountain, dark and red. Turned the stone, and looked beneath it... "Peace on earth" was all it said. Go ahead and hate your neighbor, go ahead and cheat a friend, do it in the name of Heaven, you can justify it in the end. There wont be any trumpets blowing, come the judgement day. On the bloody morning after, One Tin Soldier rides away. Phil

  8. Thanks Scott, I went and took a pill already. Phil
  9. I don't want to appear to preach so just take this as my opinion. Some here seem to have a poor us attitude when it comes to machining. Most of us working and I hope no one had go to bed hungry last night. I agree with those who said they take a lot of pride seeing a project to completion. As a challenge, take a look around you and try to find something that a machinist DIDN'T have a hand in making. This won't be easy. I think we all would like a dream job (different for each of us) but life is about realities and in the real world being a machinist is a pretty good way to feed yourself and your children. Phil
  10. O/t topics get more hits because they are usually topics of interest where mastercam questions are normally answered in just a few posts. That is a tribute to, not only the knowledge, but the willingness to share it that resides in this forum. My hat is off to all who endeaver to help in the forum. Phil
  11. Oct. 30, 1958 Been machining since '74 Seen a lot, heard a lot, Drank a lot, Smoked a lot(past tense), Lived through a lot. I remember like it was yesterday,"one small step for man...." , " I am the greatest", "free at last, free at last, thank god almighty, I'm free at last", "but by the content of his character.", "I am not a crook", Mr. Gorbachev, tear down your wall" , "hey Gomer..hey Goober", "hello darkness my old friend", "make love not war", "october 1970 F.L.Q.", "do you Becky, take Philip to be....", "Good night Mrs. Calabash, where ever you are" "And that's the way it was" We are all the sum of our experiences. "What a long, strange trip it's been" Phil
  12. My deepest sympathy goes out to the American and Israeli people this day. Special sadness to the families of all the astronauts waiting in florida for the landing. How horrible the news must have been to be told their loved ones were not coming home . Our scout troop is spending the night at the observatory looking into the sky tonight. The program will be altered for sure. Canada mourns this loss. Phil [ 02-01-2003, 12:50 PM: Message edited by: PhilCott ]
  13. GONG XI FA CAI There is a large chinese population in British Columbia and they put on a big celebration. My family and I always go for Dim Sum lunch and stay for the parade and firecrackers. GONG XI FA CAI (I always wondered how that was spelled)(pronounced gong hey faa choi???) Phil
  14. Steve, Put your name here and see if you can still get one. http://www.mastercam.com/2003/ Phil
  15. Check your snail mail forumites. I am looking at my shiny new 2003 Mastercam calendar. Phil
  16. James, Thanks for the reply. I will have a look at verisurf. I had a look in the c-hook directory and did not see it there so I asume this does not come with mastercam so I will follow the link at the bottom of the screen. Phil
  17. Hi all, We have a Mitutoyo Bright Apex A-504 cmm loaded up with their Cosmos 2.0 edition 5 software. Our Q.A. guy says this is a cumbersome and limited package. Does anyone have knowledge on what other cmm software would work with this machine, or know of a forum, such as ours, where he can go for help? We would like to be able to use programs (or at least the geometry) already written for the mills to program the cmm's path. Any help would be appreciated, Phil
  18. Trevor, No S#!^. Maybe I can be a beta tester. quote: "He that is good for making excuses is seldom good for anything else." - Benjamin Franklin - I just read your new tag line. I have a book at home written by Ben F. called "Fart proudly". I'm not kidding.
  19. Trevor, I know you'll have fun. I went to the fly tackle dealer show in Denver this year and had a great time checking out all the new stuff. If you get a chance, could you pick up some info on some nice (yet not too expensive) mandolins for me? If you do, I'll send my address. Phil
  20. Trevor, quote: This past month has been pretty crazy for most music instrument makers. We have all been getting ready for the NAMM show I bet you're busy. Where is the show held at? Phil
  21. Hi Trevor, Sure would like some info. Can you email me some? Have you had an opportunity to talk to Bob Taylor regarding our previous discussion? I will be in Olympia Wa. in March so that would be a good time for things to happen. Phil
  22. Rich, I won't be able to help you with your boring problem as I don't know what kind of machine a niigata hn50c is (I would hazard to guess a horizontal mill??), but I can probably give you some friendly advice on trying to get help in this forum. Sometimes a forum member needs to ask what may seem to you "is a dumb response" because they need to get a better idea what you have at your disposal to allow you to do the job complete. To get results in here you need to come in with your hand outstretched not your middle finger pointed up toward the sky. There are an incredible number of folks in here that will help you if they can. What is with this statement?? "do you always respond to topics just to see yourself talk." Cheer up man have a beer. Good luck in here, Phil
  23. Hi Chris, Since I also program the Hardinge GT (Gang Tool as you said) I will answer for Eric. (with luck he won't throw something over the Haas, clearing the Mori SL200SMC, and hitting me on the back of the head) On the GT there is no need to call up a tool as there is no turret to rotate into position. We are actually just calling up the tool's offset (geometry and wear) number that tells the control, where on the top plate the tool is located. We can slide tools along the top plate into any position and give it any offset number we want. Hope that is what you were asking. Phil
