  1. Scott, Thanks for the info regarding the pilot's condolences. That is something I did not hear. I am sure he is sick with grief and I wish him well. Phil
  2. James Thanks for the condolences. My thoughts though are more about what is reported or not and why. When the gun turret on a US destroyer blew up we had coverage, when US troops hit their own tank in Desert Storm we heard about that too. When US news was saying troops had liberated Granada the world press was saying invasion of Grenada . The differences are just an interesting phenomena. I don't want anyone to think I am US bashing. I love many things American like my wife, my 3 kids, Coke, great movies and music (especially bluegrass and Blues),and some beer (Henry Weinhards Private Reserve). Not to mention Mastercam. I just find the differences in news coverage strange between the two countries. Phil
  3. Hello forum friends, I am curious what your local news agencies have reported in regards to the accidental death of 4 Canadian soldiers by friendly fire in Khandahar. In the past, stories that were big news in Canada didn't even make the evening news at my inlaws in Washington state. Hasta, Phil
  4. Thanks for the lead Kenneth. I read the other posts with interest. It seems you have been using type3 for a while and like it. Do you have to do much manual cleaning up of lines or does the software do this for you? Call me fussy but I don't like to see different facets on the parts I engrave. Phil
  5. Hi everyone, Has anyone had experience using type3 engraving software? I was asked to check it out for the boss to help with doing logos and the like. If I get responces pointing me to mc's engrave please also rate it out of 10 for ease of use and smoothness of the vectors created. Thanks, Phil
  6. Hi Jack, To rotate tools I go into the operations manager (press alt + O) and click on the tool you want to rotate. Click on "setup tool" (upper right)and adjust settings for the mounting positions. I use a right hand tool mounted horizontal and I also reverse the tool. Click OK and then check with "draw tool" (again in the upper right). click Backup, then "save to library",OK, and your done. Hope this is what you wanted. Phil
  7. Hi all, Since the topic is open I want to ask how clean are the graphics that come in when using "Raster to Vector" , ilustrator, streamline or any other software that is out there? I have always spent quite a lot of time "cleaning up" ragged edges and turning multitudes of short eratic lines into smoothe curves. What do you do to get clean lines for engraving? Phil
  8. Hi, When I program our Mori Seiki mill/turn machine to mill a face contour (such as a hex) the machine requires that the polar notching cycle(G112) be started with the "c" axis at C0.0 and also does not allow positioning moves (G00). My question is how to create lead in moves that will start at C0.0? I will put a file (hextest.mc8)on the BB to give a visual. The red lines are the approximate path I would like to have the cutter follow. Thanks, Phil
  9. Hi again, Bullines, CBC radio 1 in B.C. is broadcasting the game. Phil [ 02-22-2002, 11:57 AM: Message edited by: PhilCott ]
  10. Greetings of international friendship, I can't believe what is going on at the Olympics. Seems like there are no events without some kind of scandal. From the French judge, Gretsky's whining rant, to the Russians threatening to go home. Where has the persuit of (non-drugged)excellance gone. Don't know about you guys but to me, the fun seems to have vanished from the scene. I will continue to watch and cheer for the home team but it will be UNDER PROTEST. Phil Victoria B.C. Canada
  11. Holy Crap it worked Hi to you all, I have been CNC machining for 24 years.I started long before any cam systems were around and we used a calculator, pencil and lots of asprin (before Tylenol as well) to create code. I've been using M-cam for about three years now. we were left hi and dry by a so call smart system that I used for 10 years. We are a job shop that also produces some of our own products(www.jsfoster.com,,www.Islander.com). We have 4 cnc lathes, 3 vertical mills, and 1 mill/turn machine. One question I have is, does anyone know of a site to go and get posts or is this kind of sharing frowned upon with Mastercam. I am having difficulty expressing to my boss the value of a post that requires no or minimal editing. Hasta, Phil Victoria B.C. Canada [ 02-18-2002, 04:53 PM: Message edited by: PhilCott ]
  12. Hi, I'll make this short till I am sure I'm doing this right. Tried posting a while back but was unsucessful. Phil Victoria, B.C. Canada [ 02-18-2002, 04:24 PM: Message edited by: PhilCott ]
  13. Hi. My name is Phil Cotterell from Victoria B.C. Canada. I've been cnc machining for 24 years. 14 with my present employer. J.S. Foster Corp. I've been using Mastercam for around three years and Smartcam for 11 years before that. We have 4 cnc lathes, 1 mill/turn lathe, 3 vmc's. We are a jobbing shop that services many different industries as well as market our own line of fly fishing reels. (islander.com) I have been looking and have been unsuccesful trying to fine a bulletin board of some sort where I can find lots of posts. Are there any? Good luck to you all. Stand Tall, Stand Proud, Stand United. Phil
