  1. Absolutly nothing is different, all the machines were purchased together from the same vendor with the same components. They also all have the same software installed on them. the only difference I can see is on the two that are crashing the users both run Mill level 3 with Solids. I said 'crappy' because they made us do a complete uninstall and reinstall of MasterCAM X without giving us an MSI file to allow automatic install through Active Directory. Know what kind of pain in the arse it is to go to 10 seperate machines while guys are trying to use them to update software? Not everyones tool shop has one computer in it. *****Come on MasterCAM, get with the modern era and give us administrators the tools we need to get our jobs done in a reasonable ammount of time***** what if an admin had 1000 machines to update? As for the video cards, those machines are running Quatro FX 500 series video cards also.
  2. I have three computers which are each connected to a large CNC machine via serial. Both computers have MasterCAM X and 9 installed on them. When the guys use version 9 to send a program to the CNC via DNC they have no problems at all. When they go over the X, using the same DNC settings, they get errors on the CNC. I know it's not the serial or the control because everything works fine in version 9. Has anyone else had problems with version X transfering via DNC? thanks -Craig
  3. I have about 10 machines on my shop floor all running MasterCAM X MR1. Two of those machines are used to run Mill level 3 with Solids. Those two machines both crash on average about 7 times a day. The toolmakers say that it probably always happens when they are working with a large IGES import (2000 or more surfaces). One of my guys says it happens a lot when he's saving and opening files and the other says it happens when he's zoomed in on a wireframe and rotating it. I'm not sure if this will help but here is one of the error messages that Windows pops out. -- The Instruction at "0x7c910e02" referenced memory at "0x3f008081" the memory could not be written. -- These are both Pentium 4 3.0gig machines with 2gig of RAM running Windows XP SP2 with the latest updates (We have a WSUS server serving approved updates on the fly to all machines on the network.) They are also running MasterCAM X MR1 (The latest crappy 'reinstall the entire package' update). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. -Craig
  4. I just got off the phone with him and there going to scrap the idea of changing the existing toolpaths and start from scratch with a new software. A software that can create a toolpath from a scanned image. Thanks all you for of your input.
  5. That is what I feared. Please refresh my memory where is reverse posting in X or MC9?
  6. Hello all, I need some help for one of our customers. Our customer has hundreds if not thousands of NC files that were created in Mastercam but does not have the MC files or NCI files. These files are for a router and the toolpaths start by plunging right into the part. These parts are being held in place by a vaccuum chuck and as you can imagine they move all over the place when they are machined. We would like to help them alter the toolpaths. Is it possible to geomtry from at TXT or NC file in Mastercam?
  7. Andrea and Gunther I found where to change the number in the decimal place. In my system it is in Control Panel: Regional and Language Options/Customize tab. Thanks again for the setup sheet it is awesome. One question is the latest version for X+ setup sheet been posted?
  8. Happy New Year To all, We need some help with the X+ setup sheet. Where do we make the the change to make the the Z values output in 3 or four demical places? I tried what was listed in this thread but I could not find where to change it. How do I do a quote? I am new to this forum and can't seem to find how to do it. quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Am I the retard here.......or how can I get more than two decimal places in tool dia and Z min.? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Look at your Windows-System-Configuration-Country-Numbers. ---------------------------------------------------- @klingloui
  9. The four mains guys had 4 days each at CNCsoftware with various levels. Some are doing better than others. Today we found a problem with the 2D sweep path. We used this hundreds if not a thousand times in MC9 with no issues. Today it crashed. I posted a thread earlier today asking if there was a bug related to the 2D-Sweep path. Like I said I believe it will get better with time. Some of the guys want to switch back to MC9 but I tell to keep forging forward on X. Because if don't use it you will never become proficient at it. This is the software for the future.
  10. The only thing I have to say this is the most painfull transtion on software that we have ever been though. Way to many bugs in first release and subsequent releases. Maybe in time as our programmers become more familiar with the MX it will improve our productivity. Rightnow it is costing us time and money. Seems like every day a new problem arises. Hoping MR1 will solve some of our issues.
  11. We are having a weird problem with the 2D-sweep. We did a 2D-sweep of .250 female radius. The verifaction and backplot looked correct. We posted program and sent to the VMC machine. The operator noticed the H-tool length and D-offsets were not correct. We went into the operation manager and selected renumber tools and corrected the offsets reposted the program sent back to the machine. When the tool came to perform the 2D-sweep the toolpath went on centerline of tool and crashed. Also the Z value would not change. The Y value would increment. We went back to examine the program and found we could make the operation which contained the 2D-Sweep function incorrectly by changely the stock to leave value on a different tool in a previuos operation or following operation. It appears the 2D-Sweep operatios will be affected by changes on other tools or operations that have nothing to do with the 2D-sweep operation. This is a major pain in you know what. Is this one of those bugs that will be fixed in MR1.

  13. I also recommand jumping in with both feet. We decided to commit to the switch with 5 main programmers. You will experience a few headaches along the way but the only way to be proficent is to commit to using it. It will take a few weeks of getting use to it. You can always use this forum for help. There is allot of knowledgeable users out there on the forum.
  14. Here is the link to X+ setup sheet. Works great. One page, picture of part, fields you can edit, toollist and many varibles to select from your operations to be included in your setup. Very customizable. http://www.emastercam.com/ubb/ultimatebb.p...t=017889#000000
  15. Hi all, I just spoke with Chris at CNCsoftare and he assured me all printing issues will be fixed in MR1 scheduled to be released on 12-23-05. Keep your fingers crossed.
  16. We're having the same problem in X on our color laser. I have tried printing from preview but there I only get the dimension lines and text, no geometry. Wasn't X supposed to make things easier? -Craig
  17. Same thing. We have already saved the MC9 and MC8 to MCX file. We also found a coverted MC8 file the setup sheet will not work.
  18. Hello all, We need some help. I have installed X+ on three machines. It works great on 2 machines. This setup sheet is just what we were looking for. In the third machine after selecting the desired fields and options we click the setup sheet icon the screen flashes but the HTML setup sheet doesn't appear. This was a converted MC9 file. We have found when loading another file the setup sheet worked just fine. IS this problem related to a converted MC9 file???? Please advise. One other thing the Z_max number is being rounded to two digits when in the Z value operation is a three digit number. Is there any way to make the Z_max in the setup post the actual value?
  19. Is anyone having a problem with Xsp1 crashing during a backplot? They say they hit "play" button, mastercam thinks for a while, then crashes. WinXP SP2 MasterCAM X with SP1 (I cannot get updates 2 and/or 3 to install on any of my MasterCAM installs. The same thing happens that people have mentioned in this forum and not gotten a working answer for) P4 3gig 1gig RAM Nvidia Quatro FX video card Thanks -Craig
  20. Where did you upload the file HMC_10_X_19_TOMB.MC9. Please advise.
  21. I have been looking for the same example for machining a tombstone on a HMC. I went to the link above and downloaded it. The download contains a post that I assume is for a HMC but the example MC9 file is for a VMC. Does any one have an example MC9 for machining a tomstone on a HMC?
  22. I was unaware that this is just Service Release 2 and 3 for Service Pack 1. Please ignore the second paragraph in my post above. I am still unable to get the update to work. Error 1: Internal Error 2715: cmax40.dll Error 2: Error: -1603 Fatal error during installation. Consult Windows Installer Help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information. Odd thing is I have no problems with any other MSI installed packages. -CM
  23. Could someone email this to me too, I can't get to the FTP site either. [email protected]
  24. quote: PC with XP-pro, all good. Laptop with XP-home gets internal error 2715, cmax40.dll. Man I hate when you get a 2715, not as bad as a 1628 but still sucks [big Grin] I really don't know what any of that means, but since we don't have a full time IT guy someone had to say it. I am having this same problem on multiple XP machines as a user with administrative right, as administrator on the domain and administrator on the local machine. I have tried both the automatic update and the file download. Why can't I just download Service Pack 2 and 3 seperatly? One thing I notice is when I get the 2715 error the window title is "MasterCAM X Service Pack 1 Error" Why is it trying to install service pack 1 when all my machines already have service pack one? Shouldn't the install notice that I have Service Pack 1 installed already? And another thing, can we have these updates in msi format so we can push them down through group policies to machines that aren't allowed internet access? Walking around to 20 or 30 machines updating them all is a pain in the buttocks! -Craig
  25. This is also a critical issue for us. We have many repeat jobs with different job numbers. Our NC files are named the same as the Mastercam file. We use the # sign in the suffix as a proven program identifier. We also use a setup suffix setup suffix A,B,C... as some parts we manufacture may have 3 or more setups. Changing one letter is easier to type than changing the whole group name. PLUS - the setup sheet will follow the .mcx part number revision – the number I have to type in by hand to match the Mastercam file name. Again I ask when is The Chook Setdir.DLL coming back. I absolutely hate having to redirect a file everytime I have to save it. I my opinion MCX is it harder use than any previous version? Isn't software improvemnets supposed to make our jobs easier and more efficeint??? We are doing more clicking and redrecting of files than we ever had to do in previus versions.
