Importing Files

I am a High School student and we use mastercam in my class we also use the Rhinoceros drafting system ,and I was wondering if anyone in here knows how to import Rhinoceros files into mastercam???

You can't import Rhino files into Version 6. You would need to convert it to a format mastercam could read.

can you save out of Rhino as a DXF or IGES? Mastercam should be able to read those.

Save your Rhino file as Iges, dxf, dwg, or parasolid (x_t). Than use file converters, and select the format you saved the file in... On second thought, I'm not sure if parasolid was standard with V6.

Try dxf, and dwg like Steve suggested. If it doesn't work e-mail me the file and I'll convert it for you. Make sure you zip it first.

It allready says that it has incompatible Version Nubers

Version 6, that may pose a problem. Version 6 is like 6 or 7 years ago. It's IGES converter may have problems reading in a newer filr. If you have to work in 6 best bet it to read Rhino into MC, save as Mc8, Close V9, Open V8, open file, save as V7. CLose V8, Open V7 and save as GE3, them open in Version 6.

How are you trying to bring the file into Mastercam V6? Are you using File/Convert/IGES/Read. That should work. Don't use File/Get

Richard, I just created a surface in Rino 2.0 and saved it as an iges file(flavored for mastercam)

and read it into mastercam mill6.13a

(file,converters,iges,read file)

If you are saving as dxf/dwg, you will not get any surfaces.

About your only hope of brining in a modern Rhino file into Mcam V6 is if you can "downgrade" the Rhino file to a version of Rhino that may have been avaiable 6 or 7 years ago. I'm not even sure if Rhino was around that long ago. IGES would be your only choice for surfaces as well. If you can upload the Rhino Iges to the FTP site link up above (cadcam's FTP site), maybe one of the members here can bring it into their current version of Mcam and convert it for you. You may have to ask "pretty please" though. HTH

What school are you going to that is teaching (almost) 4 versions behind? So much for preparing our youth for the future.
