scallop height

Good afternoon. Just wondering if any of you have a rule of thumb for scallop height and surface finish relation.

Like I mean, if you make a toolpath for .001 scallop height vs one with .005, how much is surface finish sacrificed?

i use the excel calculator attached sometimes for this, basically just click the Round insert tools tab at the bottom, then enter the tool size and stepove and it will give you your surface finish in Ra, or you can enter the Ra your looking for and tool size and it will spit out the stepover.

if your not familiar with Ra surface finishs you could search google images, thats where the image below came from

Big shout out to the Rubert company!

During my apprenticeship I decided surface finish was going to be the subject of a thesis....so I contacted them for info and they supplied lots and also a FOC Rubert chart that the photo shows. I even saw them today in my toolbox
