Mastercam launches very inconsistently

We've been consistently running into an issue lately where Mastercam often takes 2-3 tries to actually launch. We'll get false start launches, where the launch window will open, before the loading bar freezes and the whole thing closes. Sometimes the Mastercam window has opened by then. Sometimes, the launch window doesn't even appear.

We contacted our vendor, and to be honest they were no help, just as confused by the problem as we are. We have two Mastercam license SIMs, a 2-D and a 3-D, and both seem to work mostly fine in other computers (though at least one has experienced the problem once or twice), but not on this particular one. What might be causing this?

Has this been happening from the start or did it just start happening? Do you have any other instances of MC open when you try to start it?

Could be a million things wrong if it's just on one PC.

Bad ram, bad hdd sectors, corrupt swap file (are those still a thing?) bad/corrupt registry, maybe even affinity set too low.

This just started a few weeks ago, it had been working fine for well over a year prior to that. We would have four, five, even six instances of MC open at once with no problems. Now we have difficulty opening even one, let alone a second.

This particular computer is practically brand new, we've actually replaced this workstation between the start of the problem and now, and the same problem has occurred. I suppose there could be something else internal causing the problem? However I have absolutely no clue what that could be.

So you had MC installed, it ran good, then it started acting up so you replaced the PC and the problem persists?

That's weird.

Only thing I can think of at this point is you copied a config file from the old install and used it on the new intstall? Or there's something up with the net hasp (if you use that?).

That's all I got. Sorry.

  • 3 weeks later...

Going to boil down to Permission and/or probably using a network location or One Drive for Mastercam needed files that should be kept locally on any computer never across a network or in a cloud. Most IT people are so arrogant and clumsy when it comes to understanding CAD/CAM/CAV software. They know best and the people who created the software are inferior to them. They know what is the best way and if your software doesn't work the way they have their network and systems setup up oh well. Sucks to be you is most of their mind sets.

I did say most not all. I have meet some really smart and willing to listen IT people of the years. Those organizations rocked.

I can think of one now that get $1 billion a year as someone's pocket change and their ERP and other software is all home baked and no one likes it, but the IT gods have the final say not the end users so it sucks.
