Tapered hole

Has anyone here ever took a flat endmill and machined a tapered hole with it. If so what type wall finish can be accomplished.

Yes, may times. I would say you get a nice finish, nothing a polishing stone can't fix if you want a better finish. It also depends on the tapper you require. I have finished them going in a circular patter(contour ramp) and vertically(surface radial) tool path.

Yes and I have done it with Flowline/Sprial but you can only use sprial with one hole at time if you try to do many holes it will crash into the part.

another way to go about it would be simple 2-d cutting. both pocket and contour have a toggle swithch for adding taper to the walls automaticly.the fact of using a flat end mill to get a good finish just means take .0005 or so step downs.and wahlah nice finish.

Thanks to all. I thought about doing the taper wall just as you said trev with about .0005 stepdown, just wasnt sure about finish. Its a one time part and dont want to scrape it.
