I had to give this guy an AutoCad test yesterday to see if he knew what he was doing!!

My boss told me that he had a guy coming in,and wanted to see if he could create a simple dwg. in autoCad.

So I gave him the simplist of simplist sketch to do.

I swear to god, after 10 mins. eek.gif he was still trying to create (2) circles on the same C/L !! WTF??

I had to leave my office after watching for a few cause I really felt badd!!

Never the less....He'll prolly get hired!! bonk.gif

Why Mee???

Brendan,

We all know your superior teaching talents, and Im sure your boss knows it too. so why not hire him....I mean he shouldnt take THAT much of your time away showing him how to draw circles. and hey next month you can show him a line or maybe even a rectangle biggrin.gif

good luck buddy, I been in that boat before cuckoo.gif

Peter,

The job is not for programming.

It is more of a "document control" job.

We work to sketches and they are all in autoCad format.

He would be doing rev. changes and stuff like that.

BTW,I think A/C gives a much superior print quality.

But this is just my opinion!

Bucket,

AutoCAD does produce a better quality print. That's one of the reasons it's a CAD program and not CAM. Mcam doesn't hardcopy as well as a true CAD system. I only asked because I didn't know what the job was for. He should certainly be able to draw a couple of circles on the same centerline in less than 10 minutes. eek.gif Tell your boss that you won't be able to take the time from your busy schedule (cough, cough) to train the guy. If he wants to hire him anyway, then send him to AutoCAD training. cheers.gif

Go ahead hire the guy!

In no time he'll be making circles, lines, arcs, rectangles, even polygons all over the place. After a time you could even show him how to do printouts. bonk.gif

Besides, it will be cool when you see the look on his face after he, lets say, rotates an entity all by himself. rolleyes.gif

quote:

And after 1.5 hrs......

That would take me that long too. After I answer the phone, look up a PO, find the print ref'd on the PO, open the drawing, listen to the question, answer it, and then resend the print to them.

Answer the phone again, magazine wanting to ask me questions, say "yes" "no" "yes" 30 or 50 times, wait until they are almost done and then ask what magazine it was for, then decline the offer.

Next have someone come into office, devert them off to someone else, look into their problem, come up with answer, then call the person you sent them to and give them the information to give to them.

Leave the office try to reach the bathroom, have someone else stop you, tell them to meet you at your desk, reach bathroom, as you are doing your buisness get paged over the p.a., finish up, go back to office, call back ext who paged you, listen to them on the phone as you check email and delete about 50 mortgage, viagra, virus infected, porn emails you got, continue to listen to them on the phone, tell them "Sure, but you need to talk to my boss/supervisor first" and transfer them to their ext.

Now deal with the person who met you at your desk and the other two who showned up as you were on the phone. Tell the first guy hold on, tell the second guy "No I don't know where my boss is, wasn't my day to watch him" and the third one tell hime to put in a work order and they will get to it when they can. Finally sit down and figure out the first guys problem which makes him look good to his boss.

Well now it's break time, drop everything and go get a snack. Break gets cut short because someone needs a print. They don't know the print number but it's a round thing with some holes in it. I say "Oh that one" I only have about 800 of those to narrow down to the one you need. Go back find the print and plot it out, explain the print to them until they can understand it.

Next take a breath or two.

Lastly look at the sketch, draw it in about 30 secs, dimension, correct the mistakes on it, put it on a title block, log it into the database, print one copy for the files, one copy with copy stamp for toolroom, another copy with copy stamp for the originator. Spin around three times in your chair and realize you just done more in 1 hour then most people do all day.

Or something like that... cheers.gif
