surface rough pocket machining

Hi all!

I'm just new to level 3 and i have some probs with pocket machining (surface). This is a pretty simple cylinder with fillets at the bottom end. I'd like to machine flat zone at the bottom but i can't do something clean... tool seems to zigzag at this depth.

File: pocket and fillet on cadcam's FTP

Thanks for all your helps

David, I looked at your file and see where you are getting some strange tool movement. I think this is caused by the tolerance of the surface and is exagerated by the flat bottom. I re-created the surfaces (revolved) and my toolpath looks fine. Often when I get some unusual tool movement, if I leave just the smallest amount of material (stock to leave), or in this case, by adjusting the maximum depth, it will fix the problem.

Ok, thanks all.

I finally fixed it by re-creating surfaces (tangents fillets were apparently the prob so i made a spline for this 2 arcs then revolved it) and it s much better. However, really weird results sometimes with Z-depth cut (horizontal zone and flats). I think multisurface machining requires many experimentations and tricks to make toolpath just as you want they look like.

Takes time and dont be afraid to try differant paths and options there is always more than 1 way to do something, Practice and when you do something you really liked how it works save in another folder to keep as referance.
