O/T three flute drills in 304 stainless

Is anyone using three flute carbide drills in 304 ss?? I've got 200 PSI coolant, probably not enough for small coolant fed drills.

 

Sizes from #36 to #15.

 

Depth around .600" max.

 

Need to do roughly 800 holes per size per year.

I have never tried those drills, but take a look @ Mitsubishi MZS & Micro MZS Drills with coolant through. They recommend 800psi or more, but with small diamaters like that we run them on our machine with only 142psi. Those drills last forever in 420ss. We have run the same ones (in similar sizes that you're interested in) for over 4 years without regrinding them yet. We're talking 12,000 holes+ over that time. One difference between Mits and the competitors drills is the flute length. For example Mits 5xD has the flute length longer than Guhrings 7xD

A solid carbide slow spiral drill will work just fine. M.A ford sells them and they are about a quarter of the cost of coolant fed drills. I even use them in titanium.

I am a fan of the Mitsubishi Drills. I am using them to machine Cobalt Chrome. They last forever and the difference is the coating. We are not even using coolant through.

If your talking about Guhring drills

They are awesome. I've even drilled some heat

treated s-7 with some and got great results.
