DNC, HAAS, and MasterCAM

Hello all, new person here to the forum.

Would any of you have some suggestions on getting large programs to a HAAS mill using DNC. When it says "send to Machine" when I post, I check to see if the parity, baud rate etc. are the same, but the RS232 still says "waiting".

Should I buy a communication software like ProComm? And if so, where do I find ProComm?

Thanks a million for your time.

Sharon, I personally use my editor (Cimco) to DNC to my machine. Depending on your setup. I would recommend getting some 'ol P.O.S. 256 computer with it's sole purpose to get the program to the machine. If the funding avalible, buy some software for DNCing. (i.e. Preditor etc. )

Here my computer, I usually have SW 2005 open Mastercam Mill and occasionally Lathe open while I'm DNCing to the machine without any problems :knocking on wood:.

If you use the communications through MC, MC is tied up and multiple versions don't work well with my computer.

With Cimco... You can still punch .NC while down loading.

Thanks, I will try that as well - so far things are not going too well. It would help if I didn't have so many distractions i.e. the phone, visitors, paperwork, etc. Maybe I can get this problem ironed out before Monday. Got a couple of calls into some friends close by for some help.

Wow!

When you call for help, you sure get it! Thanks to you all.

BTW - got the thing working by using Cimco as Chip recommended. Once you learn how to do it, then it is easy. Wish everything was like that.

Please don't be frightened Storkman. I am not out to prove a point, or make a statement. I'm just a worker bee like everyone else, I just wear makeup and perfume to the shop.

Thanks again gang for your help.

That's why Cimco is the best around. Don't forget to keep it updated. The most recent release for the Cimco OEM editor for use with Mcam is #4.33.46. This is a free download. You just need to supply them with a little company info for verification purposes. Go to this website Cimco Public Downloads and scroll down until you see OEM versions. I recommend checking this website about every two weeks. You may want to keep it as a favorite. HTH Welcome to the forum cheers.gif
