It's a hoax. I see these all the time. Anyone remember the one that went around claiming that Microsoft was testing some e-mail monitoring software and will pay people for forwarding e-mail? How can I tell this is a hoax? First off, Microsoft is not an authority on virus research. Symantec and McAfee track virus and develop antivirus products. Secondly, virii cannot easily destroy hardware (although they can annoy). If a virus was somehow able to destroy the file allocation table at sector 0, Windows would use the backup copy of the FAT (Windows does this automatically). Also, mentioning that it deletes all DLLs leaving the computer un-bootable is redundant; toasting the FAT would take care of that. McAfee is mentioned in the message, but a link to an official announcement is not given. For more info on this hoax, go to a real announcement at http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data...rd.for.you.html

If anyone receives an e-mail warning like this one, delete it. We don't need junk like this bogging down our networks and mail servers smile.gif
