dear all

i hav to cut strong fibre material

what can be the proportionate cutting parameters compared with aluminium or other soft mtls

i hav to develop a plug in fibre for a forming die

thanks

We cut a lot of Carbon fiber here and the Feeds and speeds are more like steel. The stuff goes thru carbide pretty quick. We use mostly diamond.

My theory is that there is a bunch of heat generated with the cutting process and no place for it to go but the cutter, since the chip will not carry it away. So real high speeds don't work well cause the rapid air movement caused by high RPMs keeps the coolant away.

This can be solved by changing the coolant pressure and orifice geometry of the coolant nozzle. I have some formulas and a Power point slide show that shows how the pressure and nozzle effects how the coolant is most efficiently delivered to the interface of the air barrier around the cutter at it's optimum SFM for the material and cutter you are using. My experiance with this is with Super Abrasive Grinding with a 5 Axis machine using High speed machining techniques. Let me know if you are interested and I'll dig it up and post it on the FTP. smile.gif
