Open Pocket MCX

Not sure if I am doing this right but I am using the open pocket function and I have to set the open pocket overlap to over 100%. If I don't the tool plunges while it is still in the stock. Doing this makes for a lot of air cuts. Seems the pocket cut is alway recutting the toolpath where the opening of the pocket is even though there is no material there anymore. What gives?

No need to extend the lines, there is a setting in open pocket machining to allow the tool to go past the open pocket to any percentage of the tool. I am at 110% so it is feeding down in the air but it is also feeding across air on every pass. This is not a production part I am working on, but if it where my boss would really be riding me for all the wasted cycle time!
