Ops library and Op defaults -How do you use them?

What is the difference between these 2 files?

 

On the surface they appear pretty to do the same things.

 

How are you using them and making them work for you?

 

Are you still using the defaults or have you created your own?

The Defaults have one operation for each toolpath type that populates the dialog box the first time you use that toolpath type in a session.

 

The operations library lets you have as many operations for a specific type (Drill, Contoru, Pocket, etc.) as you want. Each of those operations can have specific settings that you always use. These operations can be imported into the toolpath manager and then you assign geometry to them. You can save different operation parameters for each material you cut and recall them anytime you want them.

I use the library (in v9 ) still doing all the standard paths now for X for 3d parts . I have built a library for 3d and pick the paths I want to import then just apply them to the 3d surfaces. Works great in v9 , I tried a couple of tests for X but haven't used them yet.

i think that depends on your circumstances.

for me, the defaults get me close on most jobs, but some settings are always the same so, those are the ones i modify.

I tweaked my defaults and use them most often. Once in a while, I'll create some oddball operation. I try to save it to my library, in case it ever comes up again.

For the most part, I import ops from my library. Not everyone at work has a library, or uses mine, so I've changed the op defaults to match how we do things. Even if I have to create a toolpath from scratch, most of the parameters are already set.
