When projecting nci onto a surface, the projected

tool path is real broken and choppy.

What i am I doing wrong?

personally Charlie, I would try to use curves and promote a 3d chain before I'd do that because of the same luck. I'm sure it works, but I haven't had the patience to make it work for me.

I have projected engraving onto a surface and it works way better than in Ver 9.

If it's choppy it's because of the tolerance. I would project splines. Or you can do the toolpath in 2D and project the toolpath (Toolpath - Project) onto the surfaces for the 3D cut.

I did a 2d tooolpath then projected onto

3d surface, the tolerance in finish project

parameter is set at total tol of .001,

but still doesnt conform properly to the surface.

i project a 2d pocket all the time but my total tolerance is set to .0003,filter ratio 2:1 and it comes out smooth,the stepover needs to be small depending what you use for a cutter.

There was something about "add depths". Did you use that?

Yes, I have add depth checked, and it still

doesn't follow the surface correctly.

The top of stock for your 2D pocket/contour path should be set to absolute 0 and your depth set absolute to your correct negative value (as well as any other depthcut/lead in/out options). Then make sure add depths is checked in your 3d project path. I haven't done this yet in MCX, but thats the way I remember getting it to work correctly for me in MC9....if you could share the file on the FTP Im sure someone could figure out whats going wrong in with your toolpath

I saw a bug in V9 where the 2D geometry had to be above the surface. If you do that make your depth incremental.
