Spindle Bearings/ V9.1 crash

Hi,

 

One of my guys crashed our Daewoo 3016. He was using Mastercam version 9.1 but the tool length offsets posted as H0 for every tool. In the parameter box for each tool the offsets were 0 and the head # was -1 any ideas?

 

There was a 3" facemill in going 500 rpm and it came down on the vise jaws and stalled. The spindle now sounds different.

 

Does anybody have a rough idea how much it will cost to replace the spindle bearings.

Unless your operator set a work offset wrong the tool should have stayed at retract position or overtraveled in the plus direction. Unless the machine parameters are set up in reverse.

I saw an advertisement by Haas last week, they are publishing repair rates in magazines for various things, think that was 3,150?. I was told around 4 thou for my Milltronics(its close to needing that, may try doing it myself...

If it is a cartridge spindle you are probably better off just swapping out the whole thing; that's the way most of them are done these days on the smaller machines. We rebuilt the spindle on one of our [old] Matsuuras last year and the bearings alone, in the box, were over $1500; add in a bunch of labor and you're talking some serious $$.

We just did a viper spindle here. Just ine bearings it was $3000.00. and like chirs said Distance to go is your friend.

Isn't there something that can be done in the post to make sure T# matches H# or else you get a warning ? I thought I read about that in the past...
