File Conversion

Hello All:

I am a CNC programmer who specializes in electrode milling for mold makers. I have techniques for offsetting geometry needed to create complex electrodes that orbit when they burn.

One of my customers sent me some files with file extensions I haven't seen before. The files are File_Name.PRT.2 & File_Name.PRT.2.txt. I’m not sure how to deal with these files or what prgram produced them. I believe they contain 2D drawing files.

How do I veiw these files or convert them into something different?

Any help appreciated...Thanks for your reply

Draftmaster,

MCX works great for opening prt. files.

File open/Change the type of file on bottom and click arrow/prt. type files/then open the file from it's location on your computer.

If you don't have solids installed on your computer just delete all solids. All your surfaces and wire frame etc. will be there.

I would guess the 1st one is from Pro/E (since there's a .2 after the .PRT extension). I've never seen .TXT after the .PRT extension.

Keep in mind that .PRT can sometimes be confusing, since both Unigraphic and Cadkey KeyCreator (and others - really old SolidWorks for example) save to the .PRT format.

Also keep in mind that the Mastercam Pro/E reader is an add-on product.
