Hi

For cnc part out of a solid, I agree with jay --"part is already there"

I have also made a few things that may not fit the other option

and some parts fit neither----

Weldment -- a part out of pieces of material welded together.

Solid modeling --- solidify liquid polymers one .003 layer at a time.

Castings are poured.

Forgings are swedged formed,(smashed)"WELL FORGED"

100% cladded part ---thin layers of weld that eventually form the shape of a part.(A part made out of total weld)

Molded thermal plastic parts

Powdered medal

Tube bending

vacuform

And the list goes on------

In this economy I have narrowed it down for myself to one simple category

""ANYTHING THE CUSTOMER HAS A CHECK FOR ""

This was fun biggrin.gif

This is like the age old question "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?". biggrin.gif That also reminds me of a quick sick joke. A chicken and an egg rent a room in a hotel. Two minutes later the egg lights a cigarette and says "Well that answers that". biggrin.gif That was courtesy of Maxim magazine from sometime recently. I like the "part already in" theory though. I'll have to ask that of my students. "It wasn't me! The part just didn't want to come out". biggrin.gif
