solids question

hey all. what level of mastercam do you need to program in solids.i'm running level one now with no solids package. thanks

Mill 1 with solids, we just puchased another seat of this to go with our Mill 3

 

It is the ability of the toolpaths that is limted but if you program in Mill now you could add solid and do all the same paths

MIll 3 without soilds will machine exactly the same as if you had solids. Solids justs give you the ability to create and alter the solid.

Yes it will but for the small adition cost of solids and the migration towards a 3D world, why wouldn't you have it?

When we purchased our 2nd seat we just bought Mastercam Design w/solids. We now have level 3 w/solids. I think it is just an add on. It works pretty smooth, especially if your engineering dept. writes out parasolid files.

The nice thing about solids is you don't get the surface edges that don't line up by some crazy amount like 0.0001 and your cutter path notices it and won't let you cut at that z level. With solids you get a nice clean modal.

Solids is BY FAR THE most productivity enhancing tool available for the software because no matter than you do, it's useful. Even if you're only doing Router, you can sill use it for design work.

Solids by far is always cleaner than geometry in the fact that, what can exist in wire frame may not fly in solids. Owens Community College is where i am currently taking classes. They have a deal with Haas so they also get the newest and best toys. Modeling a part in solids not only gives a water tight model but is much easier to render a finished part in a third of the time it takes to do a wire frame. Output for edge curves or,extruding a boss or, cavity is dead nut easy. Solids Rock.
