3-D Equal Distance toolpath for steep wall?

3-D Equal Distance toolpath for steep wall, to improve surface finish.

Is there a setting for this in Mcam?

Eric,

 

A finishing toolpath.

Say in the case you have a odd shaped cavity with steep wall, and you want to maintain a smooth finish, the steep side of the cavity will not have as good of finish as the part of the cavity that not so steep.

I have never got flowline to work well for me with multi surfaces. It may just be me.

For steep walls, I always use surface finish contour and then use the shallow button to remove cuts from shallow areas.

After that, it is up to you again what to use on the bottom. Generally, sufrace finish shallow works well, but that depends on the part as well.

if it does not work good with your multy surface but you like that style, then use furface finish project blend that works great.

that works good too, if your part is somewhat symetrical. I believe then you dont't have to use different strategies to finish the part. (correct me if I am wrong). Our jobs never seem to be, so I don't use preject blend much at all. Guess thats why I didn't think of that one.

Try Surface Finish Pencil with Unlimited stepover. Its also available as a high speed toolpath (which rocks!)

You are right, it doesn't need to be symetrical, but I never got it to work right if the part wasn't somewhat symetrical in dimensions. I havn't played with it enough either so it is probably just me.
