Memory in the machine

The amount of memory required will mostly depend on the size of the surfaces being machined, the amount of stepover, also if the part has free form surfaces or geometric surfaces. For example if the part being cut is 1inch x 2 inch x 3 inch that won't take much memory, but if the part is 1 foot x 2 feet x 3 feet it would probably require much more memory. But you never have to much memory. (Kind of like beer you can never have to much on hand.)

Ain't no such thing as too much memory !! Go for the max available.

???? - Can a HAAS be hooked up to a LAN??

FYI - I'm working on a tennis racquet mold now and the bigger programs from Mcam are 700 to 1100K. If I had a tool chg'er they could easily be 4000K in size. The LAN makes transfer to the machine directly and immediate.

The newer Haas have a LAN option. I would not go with a larger memory without the LAN option. Who is going to wait to load a 10+ MEG file with RS232 cable?

Unless you are running the same program over and over again, you would be much better off taking the money from the LAN and the extended memory options and putting that toward a computer running Cimco's DNC-MAX. Then there is no waiting to load large files, you run direct from the computer.
