Safety Zone

Do you guys use Safety zones for index work?

I have been using a ref point for a clearance move when indexing.

Will adding a safety zone to my set up eliminate the need for me to input a ref point?

This is from MC help.

quote:

You must enable retract moves in the toolpath to activate the safety zone. You can enable retract moves in the parameters tab of the toolpath dialog box by selecting the Retract checkbox.

"Retract Checkbox"???

Thanks

Neil,

Thats what I'm asking does anyone use it.

I use Ref point in the toolpath parameters to get a safe retract height for index rotations.

Does anyone use the safety zone, and does this mean e "Ref point" is not needed?

I tried it back in V9 and didn't like it.

I used it on a 5X axis job and it sent evey tool

on every recatract to the saftey plane.

Its an all or nothing deal. I had a couple of 5X drillpaths that were perfectly safe with an R.1,

but the Safdtey Plane forces evey move to the Saftey Plane. IT performs exactly as advertised

but you have no control... its Saftey Plane

all the time... every time.

Its on the Properties page under a tab called Saftey Zone.

I think I just set an ABS Z value in V9, X looks a little more complicated.

For an HMC, I think you'd want to use the cylinder

After reading Help on Satey Zones, it looks to be a bit moree sophisicated in X2 than it was in V9

Might be useful for HMC work
