Post Question - Retracts

[Jimmy Galto at SAR Engines]

I am new to post editing and need some help with a repositioning issue. After each pass the tool retracts but then feeds to position for the next pass. I would like for this to be a rapid move. I have been reading the post modification info out there but am a little overwhelmed.

 

Where would I change this and what would be the proper entry.

What do you have the operation set-up to do? I would like to see the operation and the posted code and look there first before looking at the post.

These are what I use on the para's page.

 

Clearance=on ABS

Rapid=on ABS

 

Rapid retract=on

 

Feed plane set to****INC*****<--------This will do what you want I believe....

It's a simple 3ax pocket toolpath but I've noticed it not rapiding to reposition on any of the 3ax toolpaths.

are you using rapid retract? it's under your spindle speed in X.

I have my current settings just as you said with no success. I have actually run this exact program before but with a different post and it worked fine. My post was updated by my reseller after finding some issues with 5ax toolpaths and I'm just now doing some 3ax work again and found this problem.

Well Jimmy the people at Barefoot are going to be you best bet. If they modified the post for some reason and you start changing things then you risk have some big problems down the road.

Believe me, I agree with you. I was just willing to give it shot. More for the learning process than anything. I can always save a copy and go back to the way they had it in the event I really mess it up.

Well then you need ot debug the code and back tract the post from there to look for the section of the post that gives you the output you are seeing. If you d onto know how I will explain. Set the Control Definition/Nc Output check the enable post file debug. Then in the post you need to change this line of code to give you the long code to see everything the post is doing.

If you put -30 in for the vaule it will give you the the whole code posted out not shortened like a 30 or 46 will do.

 

Now when you think you have tracked it down trying changing things, but do them one at a time so you can see the results. Sometimes you have to change bewtween the +/- on the debug 2 to see the results easier and I post to 2 files and then compare from there to see what I am getting for the changes in the posted code. You get stuck post up what you are getting and where you are at and we will see if we can help you.

Thanks Ron. I have used the debug before on another issue. I will try that again. I was just confused on what command I should be looking for. I think it's prapid and where it goes.
