Iscar Insterted drill question

We just bought an Iscar DR drill. Its 2.344 diameter.

 

If you have a larger DR drill from Iscar, could you look at the tip for me and tell me if the inserts are strait across from each other? On our drill, the inserts do not line up with each other like all of our other insert drills. We are trying to figure out if this is right or if we got a bad drill. It does not drill the proper size when on center and has some chatter issues.

Iscar drills do not drill flat, so I think it is OK.

 

If you are doing it on the lathe, you can offset the x axis to get it working right. Keep in mind that they are for roughing and the size will only be close. They shouldn't chatter though.

I don't mean like drilling a flat bottom hole, I mean the cutting edge of the inserts are not 180 degrees apart from each other.

Mine aren't 180 either and they work allright.

The cutting edges are not suppose to be in a straight line, I think it should be two or three degrees off.

That is correct. The inserts should be 177° to 175° apart and the inner insert should touch the workpiece first when drilling.

There is nothing wrong with the drill. The inserts are staggered/offset that way so to equalize cutting pressure.

make sure the insert are in right theres only one way it has a sqiggly line on the proper corner and ive seen them in wrong from time to time
